I want to replace the stock radio/cassette player with a stock ford radio with CD.Anyone know if they make such an thing. Ebay has a radio but the connectors are different. Don't know if it's for a premium sound system or not.I don't know if I have a premium sound system. I do have a silver box behind the glove box but don't know if it's the external amp or something else. My radio only has 2 identical 8 pin plugs on the radio.Ebay has a radio and the # is 160251230778 and another one #300233320250. Don't know if these would work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have 2 single row, 8 ping harnesses, you DO NOT have premium sound. I don't know for sure if the stock CD players came setup for non premium sound or not, some one else will have to chime in.... If it did have premium sound you'd see a single row 8 pin harness and a double 4 row amp input harness, usually black and silver at the plug and a gray cable going to the amp behind the glove box. Both situations you have two harnesses essentially, just that the speaker plug varies between the premium amplified and the non premium non amplified stereos.

Good luck and happy hunting!

I have a silver box behind the glove box. Could it be something else other than an external amp? 95 Contour

For about $150, you can get a Sony radio/cd from Circuit City installed (free installation). $120 for the HU and then about $30 for the harness adapters. I did it two years ago.

This is a good thread, I am strongly considering doing the same thing...I do have the premium sound, so the plugs I/we would be looking for would be this....???

I assume the left is the "single 8-pin" and the right is the "double 4-pin". I've seen another picture with what appears to be an additional harness plug-in just above the "double 4-pin"...but it looks in this pic as if there is something in that spot.

You assume correctly. There is something in that spot, it's a blank IIRC, if you ever take out the same radio on like a mustang with the mach or shaker systems there is usually a harness plugged in there as well. For our cars though, as long as you have the premium system, you need the 8 pin power plug and the double 4 pin speaker/amp input plug.

I'm not sure if your asking me about the tape deck, or the OP. The thread started back in June...so.... If your asking me, I'm actually going to take out the silly, mal-formed, beeping, flashing, 8,000 button CD player the prior owner put in and replace it with a very nice looking, subdued stock CD player. I use XM....occasionally listen to a CD...I don't need, or like all that other stuff.
