Alright I read it awhile back, and I can't seem to find it again. I've searched for awhile, but again can't seem to find my answer. Which have the 2 bolt flange and which have the 3 bolt. Was it 98 and older 2 bolt, and 99 and above 3 bolt or the other way around, or what...

All automatics are 3-bolt. 5-spd cars were a mixed bunch.

Best way is to crawl under the car and check. If you see a flex pipe it's a 3-bolt. If you see two bolts and springs in there to add tension, it's a 2-bolt.

as stated all automatics are 3-blots with a flex pipe

all manuals until late 99 and 2k are two bolt with the cermamic gaskets. the very late 99s and 2k that where manuals also have the 3 bolt and flex pipe

and if someone installed weapon r headers and y-pipe that would have changed to the 3 bolt setup ...

Why did Ford find it necessary to change the design for only the last two years?

Because they knew that 8 years later I would buy a 2-bolt MSDS y-pipe from a friend with a '98 and be pissed when I found out that mine was a 3-bolt?
