I am picking up a 1999 Cougar with a 2.5 but the tranny wont shift in any gear. I also a a 1998 Countour with a 4 cylinder that doesnt run. Now for my question if you havent already guessed by now....Can I use the tranny from the contour in the cougar. What will I need to do to get it to bolt up correctly.

You can't use the 4 cyl. tranny on the 6 cyl. motor... or vice versa.
Search the Cougar forum : www.newcougar.org in the transmission section, there are a few things somewhere in there explaining why.
I think it has something to do with length of the axles to the differential or something like that...

Ok, thanks. I was thinking maybe the bell housing just needed to be swapped.

The bell housing pattern is different. I think that the trans bell housing can't be swapped, that it is part of the trans case, so that you would need to do a case swap, and that isn't any easier than doing a trans overhaul.
