Hello all. I have an issue with my 2000 Contour 4-Cyl ATX doing the 1-2 Bang shift. I did a search on here and found out that I need to change my TSS to the new revised part. I see the part# is 1S7Z-7M101-KA, but when I went to my local Ford Dealer they said the latest part # is 6L8Z-7H103-AA. They also said both part#'s are available but recommend the latest part # saying that it was revised again in 2006 and the other is an older revision. So should I go with the newer part# I would assume that is what I should go with. What do you think?

If you can get the older one, go with it. If not, take whatever is available. Check with Bill Jenkins at.....

I have ordered the newer part number with the thought that it should be better than the older "revised" part. I will compare it to photos shown here...if it is white plastic with the plastic retainer and not the metal retainer then I will use it. I will let you know how it goes and if it fixes the problem.

So I tried removing the TSS tonight...didn't go too well. I lubed up the part as best I could with trans fluid (all I had around) and tried turning the sensor back and forth as I pulled on the sensor using pliers. POP...thought I had it and the darn thing pulled apart flush with the tranny case! I can see the end of the magnet now. Any suggestions on getting this thing out? I am afraid of getting crap in the tranny trying to get this out. Is there fluid behind the tss opening. Is crap ie. rust etc... going to get in the tranny fluid?

Drill a hole in it with a sharp titanium drill bit, see if you can catch a screw in it and lever it out. I ended up pulling pieces out of there with picks and small pliers until the hole cleared. Search TSS, you might find a few stories. Fluid is below the hole. Maybe a shop could do this. The gasket sticks and a ring of rust also forms in the iron plate. Try TSS Stuck topic

I finally got this sensor out!! The remaining piece you could push back in the bore until it hits the turbine shaft, I am assuming thats what it hits. I then could feel the rust ridge, I removed what I could with a dremel tool and attempted to remove the sensor. Still a no go.

I then drilled around the magnet removing a small amount of plastic each time until I could get to the o-ring. I had drilled 3/4 of the way around the magnet and then used a small pick to rip the o-ring in two and remove it. Once the o-ring was removed I could remove the sensor (what was left of it) with needle nose pliers, "bad language", and some force.

Now I am going to remove the rest of the rust ridge with the dremel tool, but first I will stuff the hole with a small piece of cloth soaked in ATF. I hope this will keep any metal from getting in the tranny.

When I install the new sensor I will drain the tranny and refill. Then start the car run it through the gears and then drain and refill again.

Any other thoughts??

Oh by the way the "new" part number 6L8Z-7H103-AA is the wrong part. Turns out that is the OSS (output shaft speed sensor) not the TSS, the ford parts guy ordered the wrong part. Now I am waiting for the correct part to come in.

LOL. I was going to suggest to check the old forums for "TSS from Hell"! That will give you an idea on how to remove it.

So today I completed my TSS sensor change. The correct part number IS 1S7Z-7M101-KA to correct the bang shift problem.

I decided to put a little bit of ATF on the rust ridge and let it sit overnight. I then pushed in a small piece of cloth soaked in ATF into the TSS hole. I put in enough cloth to protect the tranny from debris but not too much where I could no longer see the rust ridge. I decided to use a flat head screwdriver as a scraping tool to remove the rust ridge ( I thought the dremel would remove too much metal ).

To my surprise the rust came off readily easily. I then pulled out the cloth and it removed the rust with it. I then cleaned the hole with q-tips to remove any debris, being careful not to get any in the trans.

I then lubed the TSS o-ring with ATF and it slipped right into the hole. I bolted it down and connected it. I then drained the trans and refilled and drove around the block. I then changed the trans fluid again just to be sure.

Seems to shift a lot more smoothly and gently. Hopefully the 1-2 bang shift is gone!!

All in all about 8hrs to complete...LOL.
