Shift cable bushing MIA

Found this today while looking for a squeak on my 99 SVT. Did not find the cause of the squeak yet but found what i am guessing is the reason 2nd gear and reverse suck.:help:

What parts do i need to fix this and where can i find them? i have searched tousley fords site, google and rockauto to no avail.
also does the rest of the cable end look good?

That is good news. mine was built 8/2/99 so that is why i thought i had to replace the whole thing. maybe it would be a good idea to replace both ends and not just the one. I need to look over the procedure as i have never touched these before. any tips on replacement or what other parts i should replace while i am at it? like cable ends at the shifter. or maybe just replace the whole cable system?

i cant find how the cable ends come off the cable for replacement. only how to replace the whole cable.

Trust me, you don't want the alignment tool. What you want to do is press the rubber bushing out of the new cable end and into the old cable end. If you do that, you will restore the original adjustment.

If you don't do that, you may have to cut the old cable end off, and worse, you may need to trim the inner (black) portion of the cable end to allow the new one to fit into place. Heat tends to distort the plastic. If you go through all this, you will need to adjust the cable. You can do it without the tool, but it is a pain, and may take several efforts.

The new bushing is tight, but it can be pushed through with thumb pressure and pressed into the old cable end. It may seem a bit difficult, but it will be MUCH easier than changing the entire cable end.

I bought mine from Team Ford in Las Vegas.

I wanted the alignment tool so i could adjust the cable. I read a long time ago that you should do so when you add a short throw shifter. I never did adjust after i put it on years ago. but i am not sure if this is true. if all i need to do is pop the new bushing in that is even easier than i thought.

Just wondering how hard is it to put in a whole new cable assembly?
 
i looked through my Ford CD last night and replacing it looked like a pain in the ass, cutting the carpet back and stuff.
 
I don't know why they ever got rid of the rod shift in these cars. Seeing how the cable system is setup is just a step back in my eyes, not only because I own a rod shift car.....

So I have these cable ends on my 98 SE V6 and I found out the part is discontinued from Ford and I thought I was screwed, but i found out the 2007 Focus uses the same cables and bushings! Got a 2 pack on ebay for $5, put it on the car and now she shifts like new! Heres the part number I used, hope this helps someone!

4S6P-7412-AA
