Voltage regulator or alternator is failing. I had all of my lights constantly flickering and a new alternator has solved that issue and the car feels like it runs smoother.
Have fun doing it on a V6. You get to use lots of your old sailor vocabulary.

Are you busy on Oct. 8? Is there any chance your "Trail oregon" means you're close to Portland? You might want to check the "PNW Contour Group" on Facebook as several likely attendees to a local meet next weekend (in Portland) have done the "let's run extensions all across the engine bay from this far away wheel well to the back side of the alternator to get that %#@& bolt off" experience.
