Yah, so I woke up yesterday wicked dizzy, couldn't stand up or anything. Finally after 15 min of trying I made it across the room, felt wicked sick. So, me being stupid and all b/c I didnt want to miss class got up, showered, barely ate breakfast(not a good sign) and went to class. Lasted through my chem class barely then went to calc, thought I was going to die. I left halfway through and barely made it to health services, keep in mind I cant walk straight.
They started testing me for meningitis, which would have sucked, but I had no fever and I could move my neck. She diagnosed me with labyrinthitis. She said its a virus like a cold that affects the inner ear:crazy: , the part that keeps your balance. So, right now I am in bed lying down, b/c its the only time I feel good. Basically they gave me ibuprofin and said it would last a couple of days.
Last night i went to chem lab, b/c missing those is not good, barely made it through and went to sleep until an hr ago. 12 hrs of sleep.
I have to miss practice, b/c I cant do anything let alone walk and that pretty much ends my chances to go to georgia:mad:

Has anyone ever had this?
How long does it last and what am I going to expect from it?
SHe said it is pretty rare and not many people get it, wtf, why did it have to be me.:censored:

NE-CEG is good for getting rare diseases...first me with the Strep C and now you with labrynthitititustusinthry ..or whatever.

before i got my strep i had a bad ear infection that made me dizzy as all hell.
sucked!

get plenty of rest and only allow the women on top!
hehe

I've never heard of it. I thought maybe you were afraid of mazes or something with a name like that.

LMAOF. that's to funny, afraid of mazes:laugh:  . never heard of it either. hope you feel better soon.

Yeah, I got something that sent me to the ER last Wednesday. According to them, it was a "cold".

I'll tell you right now, that was nothing like any cold I've ever felt.

yeah doctors suck.

i just had my urologist tell me they found a small mass in one of my kidneys, but want to wait 6 months to check it out again to see if it grows any.
WTF?!?!
i wanna know what it is now, dammnit!

No, but I did some reading on it. Most common causes of tend to be post-viral or idiopathic. Time course for the acute phase is as you described it: worst is in the first 24 hours or so, then takes about a week to get over it. Multiple authors, however, noted that full recovery takes "weeks to months", so there may be transient episodes of dizziness or sensations of unsteadiness.

If you want to read more on vertigo, PM me with your e-mail address. I have a review article from the New England Journal of Medicine which goes over the local anatomy as well as the workup for vertigo, including discussion of vestibular neuritis (aka labyrinthitis). The short version is: "Healthy young people who present with acute vertigo, peripheral vestibular nystagmus, and postural instability usually have a benign, self-limited process."

Feel better, man --

when I read the title all I could think of was that movie labyrth or what ever it was from the 80's

I got sick in college all the time. Dirty poorly circulated dorms FTW! One time it was so bad, I woke up and i couldnt open my eyes cuz they were so crusted over with disease (kinda gross, sorry.) Had to postpone a couple of finals because of it. Health services gave me an inhaler and everything. Feel better man!

Ugh .. stupid winter season. I'm home sick right now too, though thankfully nowhere near as bad as that sounds. Have a wicked bad sore throat and fever, and I haven't eaten since yesterday's lunch (BTW avoid chicken teriyaki when you're sick, heh). Hope your recovery is speedier than Po mentions.

Also - go to a real doctor! I can't tell you how many times the school health services misdiagnosed my friends. From telling a male friend he had a yeast infection, to subscribing antibiotics for an allergic reaction to a bee-sting instead of an antihistamine (after first looking at the unswollen leg, and then squeezing the sting!), the stories go on.

So I woke up today and guess what, I could finally stand up and not fall over.:p

I feel about 65% up to full health. It is still hard to walk and sit for long periods of time but its a lot better. It seems the headaches have gotten better too.

Im still missing practice tonite though:cry: , but I should be well enough for fridays.

Now I have to get a ****-ton of homwork done. This sucks.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate it.:o

I feel all the pain going around here... I had a damn migraine kick in around 10pm last night. I'm still feeling the affects of it as of now. I'm still nauseous, still have a headache, and can't really see quite straight, but, at least the light sensitivity is gone.

you guys are weak!!! Last time I got sick was in Jan 2002 when the Pats won their first SB against the Rams..after that, never been sick to the point where id miss a day of school or work
