I had to get my atx rebuilt about 10 months ago--full treatment: rebuild, external filter, cooler, synthetic fluid...-- and now when I shift into "D" it hits kind of hard. It doesn't really make any noise, but the whole car jerks. Does this sound like a pure tranny problem or are there other likely culprits?

It does not occur while I am driving. It kicks when I am shifting from P,R, or N to D. The car acts like it is trying to lurch forward.

Check the conditions of your roll restrictors. Open the hood and look for excessive fore and aft movement of the engine when engaging in both forward and reverse gears.

Your condition would be best described as "harsh (abrupt) 1st gear engagement". Place the selector directly to 2 from N (or P) and see if the harsh enagement is also present in 2nd gear. Does the condition exhibit when going into R?
