I am seriously considering a 3L swap but I was just wondering how much money I am going to be looking at. I was just wondering what some of you spent on it so I'd have any idea of what to expect.

Here's my price breakdown going with split port 3L:
3L engine $550
Grinding and porting supplies $50
Headgaskets $75
Headbolts $40
MSDS Headers $200
Misc. Gaskets $120
Engine Mount $40
Oil pan and pickup $160

Overall expect to pay around 2k if you're doing a split port. The transmission is another beast.

As such....

450 04 Sable Motor
308 All misc seals, gaskets, motor mount, new con rod bearings, misc bolts, oil pan and pickup.
200 Tuning

I already have an xcal2 but that could add to the cost as well if you use it to tune.

Trans is a whole other story, but around 1000 for motor and necessary seals to get it all together right. Oh yeah, split port with svt timing and intakes.

one million dollars.

Well I'm not looking at spending a ton on the swap but I am going to get the turbo package that burrita is working on later this summer, maybe fall, but I figured that I'd go ahead and upgrade to the 3.0L. I thought about just going with the 2.5L turbo set up but I have been planning a swap for a while now and I figured that I'd do it so I could get more from the turbo and be running at safer psi levels. I'm not wanting to pull huge amounts of HP so what is the simplist conversion that I can do that would keep the cost down but still allow for safe usage of the turbo.

Straight 3L swap if probably your best best. Either way you're still going to spend a decent amount of money on it because I wouldn't put a junkyard engine in my car without a throurough inspection including taking off the heads. I think that a straight 3L will probably be cheapest and easiest for you.

My figures won't do you any good because I completely rebuilt this one.

The time prior on the hybrid I spent $400 on a taurus engine 400 on gaskets and 400 on the machine work to the heads. Then another 1500 on the tranny. Keep in mind I bought the hard parts at 10% over dealer cost and I did all the work myself.

I would defenitly go with the 3L block and heads, but defenitly go with the SVT split port intake manifolds if you plan on running boost! You'll have to mate the oval port heads to the split port intake manifolds though.

This is what I have:
http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=turbo&Number=1113300&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=365&fpart=49&vc=1
About $4350. But I still consider a great buy and never regret for a day.
Through the very long (maybe one of the longest) thread in the old forum, you know the entire progress of the engine build. It's under every body's eyes for over 1 year and you know how detailed the job FastCougar did. Considering I paid NOTHING for the entire build labor, this is a terrific buy.

The details of the build:
FastCougar said:
02 Escape 3L Oval Port
- Block R&R
-- reringed
-- cylinders rehoned
-- Clevite77 main & rod bearings added
-- all new TTY bolts on bottom end
- SVT Cams
- All new timing gear (chains/guide/adjusters ... everything behind the timing cover)
- All new gaskets
- Heads R&R with 3 angle valve job
-- All new valve stem guides
-- All new retainers & keepers
- Heads port matched to 2.5L LIM
- New SVT Throttle Body
- New IACV
- New SVT flywheel
- New SPEC Stage III clutch
- Grand Total: $2,505.41

This is a stock CR 3L, running 10:1 CR. I didn't do any chamber work on the heads because I know with proper tuning, this engine could hold 12+psi of boost and put down high 300's in the hp/tq department.

HMS Modified Transmission
- Slick Shift Kit (roller bearing shift forks)
- Keyed Tower Mod (never worry about breaking shifter bolt again!)
- New blockers on 2nd, 3rd & 4th gears
- Torsen T2 Diff fitted
- New OEM TOB/Slave Cylinder
- Total Cost Parts & Labor: $1,163.04
- Torsen Cost: $548.99
- Grand Total: $1,712.03

Combined Total: $4217.44

That's the parts alone and no labor cost involved.
