I am looking to buy a new Deck for my svt. I have had an alpine and a blaupunkt and like both. Now i have an ipod and want to get a deck that makes it easy to listen to the music from it. My friend has an Alpine 9856?? i want to say, and all he does it run a cable into his glove box connected to the ipod. When i tried searching through his playlists and songs using the deck itself it was so slow and difficult. Does anyone have a deck that has a better ipod compatible interface??? or any suggestions on which ones would be good?

mostof the newer pioneer head units will run with an extra box that u can attach the ipod. from there you just use the head unit controls to switch between songs.

The clarion screens have the best ipod intergration setup. It shows the ipod buttons then you can scroll throught the same way as the ipod

There are two different ways you can go, you can either get a head unit with an AUX 3/8inch audio jack on the front, which will allow you to hook up any mp3 player up with the use of a single cable, or if you just want to use your ipod you should get a headunit with ipod control. iPod control allows for you to plug in your ipod using the interface port on the bottom of your ipod. The benefit to doing this will allow you to charge your iPod and control it through the head unit itself. That way there is no fumbleing about with you playing with your ipod at stop lights, and no extra cables hanging around if the battery goes low.

Something like this is what you might want to look for. its cheap and has a lot of useable features.

But you have to buy the cable for the ipod separate, you might find this in a lot of the more entry line head units. This cable can be had for about $30

This JVC comes with the cable alread attached, and has a little bit more powerful built in amp.

Although, steeda as mentioned above, has suggested the best of the best to use, which is the Clarion. But they don't come that cheap, so I guess it helps a little more if you have a set budget, or if you just want to buy the best of the best.

No matter what scrolling through the music through a deck which is connected to the iPod will be slow. The deck has to get the data from the iPod and then convert it to what you see. Nothing is going to be as fast as the iPod itself. I usually set mine to a playlist and hit the mix all button and hit the next button if its something I dont want to listen to.

I fell you pain, believe me, it sucks to scroll through songs especially if your driving.

BTW I have the Alpine CDA-9851 w/ the iPod integration

I believe the newer ones are faster but Im not completely sure

That is correct. The Alpine 9857 (which displays 3 lines of text) is just as fast as the iPod (in my opinion). That by far is the best of the entry level decks with iPod integration. Having worked in Best Buy's car audio department for the last 7 months I can say that with a degree of confidence, at least with respect to the items we had.

Wait a couple months and then rock this:

how exactly does this alpine work because i have one now that i just installed but it takes foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrr to find the song im looking for.

If by "this alpine" you mean the 9857:
There are two buttons that skip 10% (I think they're 1 and 2 on the radio presets). So if you're in "A" and want to skip to "L", then just hit that like 3 or 4 times and it'll jump you down real quick. That helps a lot, otherwise just keep on scrollin'.
