Did Pre98's have a underhood light

Here in CDA, only 95's had them. I've had 2 or 3 95's and they all had 'em. My present 96 does not, although the wiring harness is there but the switch isn't. Find a 95 in the junkyard and pull the parts although the switches don't last and they're a PITA to get off w/out breaking them.

maybe it has something to do with the light packages you could get on the car ...

Sounds like you could get it all the way up to 1997, but only certain models with the light package.

1997 -> 1998
New front and rear end designs
5-speed now employs a cable shift mechanism, rather than a rod shift.
Suspension changes
New alloy wheel designs
Sail panels on rear door windows now smooth, emblazened with "Contour"
Over 100 changes to make interior quieter
The roof line has been altered and the rear deck shortened for improved rear seat headroom
The seat recliner is now a lever rather than a knob
The rear center seat now has a shoulder restraint
There are two cupholders in front of the console and one at the back of the console
Duratec equipped Contours will employ electronically coded engine keys
Light package decontented: No more glove box light, under hood light, or door handle lights
Color revisions

I believe they only came in 95. My 96 SE didn't have one.

My 96 LX with preferred package (and lighting group) did not come with hood light. I always thought that the hole (on the "fire blanket") there should have a light. I'm sure one of those empty sockets near the driver strut tower is for it.

I've seen an SVT without intermittent wipers. Several SVTs without SVT radiators. So something "missing" is not surprising. :blackeye:

my 96 GL came with one.

but mine had a package group (236A ?). Don't know if that had something to do with it.
No, it had nothing to do with it. I had 238A which included everything in 235A and 236A- Duratec V6 system (4 wheel disc, 195/65R14 Michellins, tachometer, performance tuned steering and suspension systems), and ATX.

The 236A is all features in 235A (Full length center floor console and radio/cassette, A/C, rear window Defroster/heated mirrors and body colored power mirrors), and Group 3 (IIuminated passenger sun visor, rear door courtesy light switches, load compartment light, front map/reading light, front footwell illumination, illuminated door handles, and power door locks) and Speed control.

Maybe yours was one of the early 1996s. Mine was a late 1996.

or they wernt SVT's

SVT without intermittent wipers was a local CEGer. 100% positive it is an SVT.

SVTs without SVT radiators - one of them was mine, and it has been discussed on the old forums.

I also know of an SVT without intermittent wipers , AND without one-touch driver's window . Belongs to a friend of mine (a 2000 , BTW) .

I was looking at installing this. Thought it would be a good idea.

Well maybe i will look for a universal kit i guess.

Or maybe something off another ford.

Tks for the input guys!!!

I thought all 2000's did not have one-touch? Was it just all 2000 non-SVTs? `
According to the Owners' Manual, the one-touch PW down and intermittent wiper speed control were options for the 2000 model.
