I almost expect to get Flamed, but here goes anyway.

Read some history on the different SPEC stages and not clear on the Stage 2.

Specifically:

1. Who has one and what are your observation of it?

2. Of those who have it, would you buy it again?

3. Any issues with it?

4. Comments/suggestions.

Thanks!

Jeff

I have the SPEC stage 2 in my car. It feels like a normal clutch on our cars. I would buy it again. The only issue I have had with it is the chatter. Then again I am NOT the orig. owner of the car with it installed. Hopefully some more big dogs chime in.

I think all SPEC clutches have the clutch chatter, unless they are mated with a SPEC flywheel. At least, thats what ive heard. I personally do not find it a big deal and wouldnt list it as a downside to having a SPEC.

I personally would just get a SPEC stage 1 if your staying naturally aspirated. I guarantee it will handle whatever you can throw at it. SPEC stage 1 has shown to work great on nitrous applications as well.

svtcuervo has the best prices. Something like $272 for a spec stage 1. and more for the rest...

Personally, I have a spec stage 1 w/ a SVT flywheel, and I have no clutch chatter at all.

SPEC Stage 3 here with a Fidanza flywheel and i got chatter some times but i just installed when i did my 3L swap so its not really broken in yet.

I have a Spec Stage II with an Unorthodox Racing flywheel. I bought them from a CEGer who had them yanked off his car almost immediately after he had them installed. Before I had them installed in my car, I had my shop check for balance and re-machining. Then after the install, I treated them like they'd not been broken in at all.

Chatter? I got a little but it either went away or my foot acclimated. Almost never notice any now.

Would I do this again? One night at the drags the car was run down the strip every 6 to 10 minutes with me mostly doing 4000 rpm clutch drops. This clutch stood up to it, no slippage. Meanwhile, this car is my daily driver, and it's still civilized in stop and go bumper to bumper traffic. My wife even likes them OK. I've now had these on for 18 months. Hell yes, I'd do this again.

It just takes time to get used to and find out what you can/can't do.

My Stage III's sweet engagement is at 2500RPM in all gears... anything other than that results in a rough enagagement.

And I can't drive around in 1st gear unless I keep it steady... it bucks really bad if you slow down or speed up.

But 4th gear scratches are always nice

I had a little chatter on my first spec stage3 but only from initial takeoff and everything else wasw smooth. Then when I had the engine apart I felt I should just slap in a new stage 3 disk when I was redesigning my turbo pipes. When I did that the new disk had no chatter and the grip was the same. I was very impressed.

I have the EXACT same thing with my stage 2. I was wondering why it bucked in 1st and 2nd gear when I take my foot off the accelerator. Thanks for clearing this up :)

It's probably just the fact that the clutch hub springs are so stiffly sprung that it almost acts like a solid disk under minor rpm changes and makes the car buck.

I really didn't have much problems like that at all.
I'm really suprised at the amount of different symptoms people discuss with a stage 3 clutch. I think a significant part of that has to do with the type of flywheel and the preparation of that flywheel.
