how do you Optimize TB? and also if i removed my hood liner it isnt going to make my hood hot? and make the paint mess up or anything is it?

leave it out. It will be fine. A lot of the late model contours didn't even come with hood liners. It was just one more thing for Ford to decontent.

i learned something about those hood liners.. you know those damn little plastic things that hold the hoods liners in place.. well apparently those melt like butter if there was ever an engine fire, the liner would then fall onto the fire and stifle it, putting it out.. o well. i took mine out too. haha

yea i was also concerned about cracking the paint cause of the heat, its been more than a year and my hood is not hotter than before and the paint is perfect

actually on hot summer days, you'll notice after running your car (no hoodliner) for like a short drive or a quick trip to the grocery store that the hood is a lot warmer, but other than that, it's not going to crack any paint or have any adverse effects on your vehicle. IIRC removing the hoodliner will keep the engine running just a bit cooler and you'll hear your engine just a little more.

As for optimizing your TB, just follow the post above (the how-to link) and you'll be fine it won't harm your car as much as it will do good (about 1 or 2 whp gain). Good luck.

I'm working on an optimized TB now to replace the one i've got on the car, which just has part of the half shaft removed. The one im working on has the ridge where the TB gets smaller smoothed out and also has the outside slightly ported and polished.... Should be a good one...

you can take it off and not worrie.

The hood liner is more or less just there for sound insulation.

However I've heard of some people saying that it also serves the purpose of helping smother engine fires

Either way I left mine in. As long as it's not falling apart I see no reason to remove it.

as stated above

On a local meet, my friend GTO Pete told me to rip it off because it gives the engine bay more air to breath to prevent heat soak in hot days. We did it together and tore the lining. One plastic 'screw' fell into the engine area and could not be found. Fortunately it did not cause any damage but soon after that I got a 3L swap so I didn't bother.

However, I found the sound from the engine bay somewhat unbearable. I have the open R&N 3550. I also have Bosal exhaust. The noise was really loud and I wasn't 100% happy.

Last month I hit a deer and bent the hood. I got another one from a local CEGer. This one came with the lining. I felt so much quieter in the cabin. So this one is here to stay.

Heh... if anything, I think the sound is 100% better w/o the liner. Then again, I prefer to hear my car and feel bumps.

I tried to stop and help a person with an engine fire on a Taurus once, not very smart of me. We used a long stick to open the hood. The hood liner was fallen down over the engine blocking the spray from the extinguisher. So we could not put the fire out. We just called 911 and let it burn. I took off, so did the other guy that stopped to help, so we would not get in trouble.

A mouse got into my hood liner and messed it up. I just took it out, I will see how it goes when I get the 3L running.
