Front plate relocated - Finally!

I really like the location of the plate and the way you secured it, but I think the plate will suffer from bending due to the wind and hit the bottom part of the bumper. You might want to put some sort of rubber or foam on the back of the plate to protect the bumper if it hits it.

Good thinking..

i might steal this idea, but make a frame instead of just the top bar, that hides behind the plate. Looks damn good!

I suggest the Elky-style plate bracket. You use two L-brackets, using 4 bolts to secure the plate to the L-brackets, and bolt it into the bumper just as dacker did. See rouar's car and Pen_Two's former car.

EDIT: That is, if you're looking to hid the brackets. I actually am still on the fence as to which is better...both dacker's and Elky's look really good! lol

Interesting fact: (you probably already know this)

But my plate is now illegally displayed. Had the opportunity to ask a county sheriff (they sit in our outer parking lot at work and monitor traffic on the road I guess) what should be done with it for when the bra is on, he said that even technically now it's illegal where it's at, but 99% of the time no LEO is going to care. HMMMM... Nice guy probably talked to him for about 5-10 minutes. He actually said he was probably the wrong person to ask cause he just doesn't care, as long as it's visable.

so what's legal then? completely centered?

Yup. I've been trying to find exact regulations. But part of the coversation went:

Him: See those two bumps on your bumper
Me: Yup
Him: That's where it should be mounted.

So far the only thing I've been able to find is that it has to be at least 5 inches from the ground to the bottom of the plate and cleary visible (which I think I pass that test). Il doesn't make finding these laws easy, at least I'm no good at it.

Just found this. Only the 2nd paragraph seems to apply to plates for "normal cars\trucks" and I don't see anything about left\right position, just up\down. I should measure when I get home.

(625 ILCS 5/3‑413) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3‑413)

He said in reality it would probably only be a state trooper that would give me any trouble.

I don't know, I may just stick it back in the factory location to avoid any trouble:shrug::mad:

ah leave it Dave. If you get pulled over you bought it like that if anything is said. You figured it was ok like that:shrug:

I really don't want to de-relocate it! And from what I found above, it looks like I should be ok.

I'm trying to think if there are any vehicles manufactured out there that don't have the stock plate position dead center of the bumper.
