I picked up a 98 t-red last week and called for the build number today. #5961.. Is there anything special about it? (with regards to the 1998 and 1998.5 thing)

well i guess my real question should be - I see people list "1998.5" in some of the threads, what does the '.5' mean exactly? and is there a cutoff for build numbers in 1998?

:help: No. Some point in 99 were the start of returnless cars.
Red 98's were the only ones with blue interiors. Went to tan.

Oh, neat I guess. Harness change... does that mean I may experience the imfamous cracking of wires?
Want to put money on it?!!!!!!!! E0s and E1s had different Coolant temp sensor plugs.

They are... tonight I am putting a ring of salt around mine trying to lift it.
early 98 and 98.5 through 99 have different engine harnesses because of the internal vs external pats to the pcm.
the harness then changed again for the returnless fuel system cars in late 99 and for 2k + (for the cougars)

I was bored today, so i got my build number too. It was #1941. I feel pretty special now.

Umm...are you sure about that? I was pretty sure that the 2000 returnless PCM XGT1 was the only one with internal PATS...but I don't have any experience with anything besides 2000's.

I assumed he meant lift the car because of a saggy spring or strut.

LOL ya lift the curse...I didnt get to it in time either, 4 of my lug studs are stripped now too...Im telling you the 5900s are cursed from the factory...ask around!
the only SVT PCM code was XGT1 as I understand it.
only 98 cars had the external pats system. anything 98.5 + has the pats system build into the PCM.
so if you have a 98 you can swap to any 98 PCM and not worry about programming keys. but for the 98.5+ if you swap pcms its best to get the keys with it so you can swap the chips in the keys or program your keys to the PCM.
