I now have broken 2 Contours in my yard. I have a 96 4 cylinder auto with a bad engine. When I changed the head gasket I must have gotten something in an oil port and now have a bearing knock and metal in the oil.

Then this weekend my daughter smashed up a 98 automatic. At first glance did not look too bad but the inner fender is damaged enough to move the motor mount and the shock tower out of place. If it was just the radiator support and maybe the front to the inner fender I could fix it. To bad too, because this car was nice. I had done the disc conversion; Focus 17inch wheel and the BAT cross over pipe on the exhaust. And no damage on the car.

So now my question. Can I put the V6 from the 98 in the 96? I realize I have to use the 98 computer and axels. Anything else that would be of a concern? Maybe I could get one car out of this.

Never mind the sarcasm above!!^^^

I believe you will have to take the subframe from the 98 as well. In fact I'm sure of it. The entire Harness as well. Other than that, I can't see any problems that you would run into. I'm sure some one will correct me if I'm wrong though. I think the motor mounts can be bolted in from the 98 if need be. You'll also need the cooling fan assembly as well. You'll have to make a few more ground points as well, as the v-6 uses more factory grounds. Some one chime in if you can think of anything else.
 
since you have both cars it should be pretty simple. just transfer everything from the 98 into the 96.

Since he specifically mentions a "V6" in his post, I think we can safely assume that he means "Engine".

As for swapping a V6 into a 'tour that originally had a 4, the general consensus here has always been that the end result would not be worth the time and energy involved.

Do a search on the old forums and you will see why.

Your best bet if you want a V6 Contour is to part our your other 2 Contours, and pick up a V6 for around $1500.00 or $2000.00. Check eBay to see what these go for in the real world.
