Clean or replace MAF?

Lately I have been noticing an issue with my car, especially this winter. The engine would run strong (1995 2.5L MTX) while cold-cool. Then after warmed up (closed loop I'm assuming) it would be somewhat sluggish in the low end (700-3000 RPM), idle rough at times and between shifts, the idle would hang a little. The idle stayed low as well, around 550-600 rpm (especially with blower on med setting and headlamps on). I datastreamed it this weekend after a drive about 10mi out of town @ 55-65 miles per hour so it was for sure warmed up. I had readings a little higher than spec from the MAF and Engine Coolant temp sensor (ECU sensor) and a rich reading from both 02s (switching from .28-.9v every second). I'm thinking the MAF is a tad out of range and also could cause the hanging idle? If anyone can share some input, I would greatly appreciate it. I love the car when it performs well but my fuel economy sucks!! I granny shift and hardly drive spiritedly. Even in the cold, I hardly leave the car idling and I still get 18 mpg in town. Maybe a good cleaning will help?

my cars got bad gas mileage also it could just be winter, for example I rarely idle my motor and I get maybe 500 km to a tank but summer is 550-600:shrug: .I suggest maybe taking out the MAF and cleaning it,not much more i can think of.

I've taken my MAF apart a few times to clean the MAF sensor (you need those security bits to remove the sensor), and just using a q-tip dipped in isoprop alcohol.. theres a fair amount of residue you'll get off it.

electrical cleaner for the win :)

I still need to do mine. I ordered the tamper bit to do it but they sent me regular torx and its not worth shipping back for exchange. I have a can of the CRC cleaner that I used to use on the BMW.

Make sure the vacuum secondaries are closing when this occurs.
Make sure the PCV hose is not collapsing and/or leaking when hot.

The last engine that was in the car ended up blowing oil all the way to the filter housing and soaking everything in between. Before putting in the new engine, I did clean the MAF with brake clean spray. I must not have done it thoroughly because when I pulled the MAF sensor off last night, I found a good amount of oil soaking part of the sensor and only a little on the wires. I cleaned them up, reset the PCM and so far the idle is a little more stable. I'll update after a few warm ups and cool downs.

I have checked to make sure the secondaries are closing and I cleaned out the PCV within the last 5000 miles. I still have an annoying throttle hang though... does anyone know if the VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor would have anything to do with the IAC operatiON?
