small antenna behind rearview mirror?

conbon... not knowing what remote you have this is purely based on the assumtion it's an aftermarket unit, (based on Dyoel182's post) there a couple possabilities based on my experience installing Viper systems. one is that keyless for some reason wasn't hooked up. Not sure why a place would do that but it is a separate connection. another would be a fuse like someone else mentioned already, power supply to the unit should always have a fuse, perhaps that has blown. other possibilities are issues with the remote itself, the antenna, or like you said, there is no unit there. Though if you got the remote when you got the car I would think the previous owner left the unit in, as it makes no sense to go to the trouble of removing the unit and not keeping the remote. Hope that helps somewhat.

Thats what I thought it might be. (keyless entry) But I don't have a remote with the buttons on it.(unlock, lock, alarm, trunk) bought the car used about 2 years ago. I do have power locks etc though. Where would I look to see if I do have one? There has to be a main unit somewhere. That would be great if I do have one, I think they sell the remotes on EBay

So he does have a remote... just not with the start button on it.

WTF? READ THE POST THAT YOU QUOTED. HE SAID HE DIDNT HAVE A REMOTE. Next time try reading all the words in the sentence. What do you think he meant by that? He has a remote with no buttons? YAY neural input remote. Conbon is the person in this thread who has a remote and cant get it to work. I just sent him a long PM explaining a few programming methods for keyless entry but you can always asks if he needs more help.

I suggested that he looks under the driver side... where most of them are.

I guess maybe you should read a little closer... sorry for trying to help them out.

thats your ECU, look under the dash on the drivers side.

you got a pic of this antenna?

No, like I said, we told him that earlier, read before you think you have an original idea and insist that I am accusing you unfairly. Yours was the 3rd post saying to look under the drivers side, and the 6th post saying to look under the dash. No sense in really telling him to do so anyways, since he wouldnt know what it looked like even if he did see it. You people keep posting stuff without reading, thinking, or understanding and you just clog things up, then you make it more confusing for anyone else who tries to help and actually has the slightest inkling of what they are talking about. Yes I realize you were trying to help, as was everyone else who has posted, but he was already told the same thing several times.

NOW CAN WE PLEASE WAIT TILL HE POSTS A PIC OF THIS ANTENNA? It might not even be an antenna or it might be obvious what it is for if we can see it.

But I don't have a remote with the buttons on it.(unlock, lock, alarm, trunk)

Maybe i am retarded... but pretty sure reading that post he is saying he does not have a remote with the start button on it, not that he does not have a remote, since he put (unlock, lock, alarm, trunk) in his post. Read the fricken post.... Hence why i said try the unlock and lock buttons together since that is how some DEI products work.

Soooo boomer could you also please verify if you have a remote or not and if you could post up a pic of the remote if you are unsure of whether or not it is Ford or after market.

he was saying that he didnt have a remote with any of those buttons on it. The reason he said those buttons is to clarify so that we would know that he was talking about the same thing we were. Read the sentence. I dont have a remote with the buttons on it. Buttons plural. Then he says (unlock, lock, alarm, trunk). Now, if he was talking about his remote not having a start button he would have said, "my remote doesnt have a start button." Its called common sense. Or he would have said, "my remote doenst have that button on it but it does have unlock, lock alarm and trunk."

He hasnt posted anything for a week and hasnt been online for half a week. My guess is he did the same thing a lot of newbs do, he got on and at first was interested, but didnt get an immediate response, felt dumb, or just gave up on it and lost interest.

Sorry ,haven't had anytime to snap a pic and post it, I'm in the middle of moving. I do have power locks, but don't have a remote. I'm thinking thats what the attenna is for  I will take a picture of the attenna tonight which is just above the rearview mirror.

That definitely looks like an aftermarket keyless entry / alarm antenna. Look for a control module somewhere above your driver's side footwell. If all else fails, trace the cord behind the headliner and A-pillar.

This was the antenna for my Clifford Matrix 2.5x (two-way paging alarm) on my first Contour.

aftermarket alarm system. pull off the a-piller trim on the drivers side and follow the wire down to the controller. When you locate the controller, you can probably determine the brand. Then you can get tech support like getting another remote and finding out how to program it.

I am going to stay out of the fray here. I just wanted to say be careful if you remove the cover on the A pillar. The clips on them seem to break 9 out of every 10 times I do it.
You actually need to try and slide it upward.
Thats all I'm putting in here................ Brian..............
