Ugh, one repair after another lately! Ok, I read some of the other entries on window repair - thanks 69boss302 for the awesome pics at http://contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=6702.

Questions:

  1. Where can I find the weatherstripping for the driver side window - is it dealer only? any ideas on $?
  2. Not familiar with how the window actually rolls up, if my window is grinding and the window has "slipped" on the way up, does that mean that the regulator assembly needs to be replaced?
I managed to manually push the window up then used the up button to (i guess) get the track reset? I havent tried to lower it. I will take apart the door tomorrow to see if their is anything that I can lube up to see if it will help at all.

thanks for any info :)

Anybody have a r&r for the motor and mechanism that is attached to the window? I think my motor is good, but it looks like some of the black plastic that houses the metal cord has broken. I think I will head out to the junk yard for a replacement. How do I get this thing out though? How do I set it so that the motor and gear is indexed properly?

Thanks!

I would recommend that you buy the replacement from Bill in Las Vegas. The trouble that you incur would not be worth the money saved. If it is the same as my 96 SE you would find that you would waste a serious amount of time and it would still not work correctly. The broken $.69 underdesigned part fails when the rest of the assembly is fine. Good luck Dan

After I figure out that the cables are actually one piece with the motor, I was able to follow the good tutorial and removed the entire unit and replaced with a new one. Set me back $80 with tax. And Dan - u are absolutely correct, even though it lasted 10+ years, the gears and housing are made out of plastic and are of a poor design. Works like new now. I hope this is the end of my repairs for a while. :blackeye:
Thanks everyone. :)
