I can't for the life of me explain how I was able to wear shorts and sandals yesterday, only to have an ice storm and a high of 28 degrees today.

if you lived in new england you wouldn't give it a second thought .... there is a reason for the saying, if you don't like the weather just wait 5 minutes

See that's the thing, I've lived in the Midwest all my life along with a brief stint in Georgia, and I thought MI had some turbulent weather. However, after moving to the panhandle, I've just never seen temperature fluctuations to this degree.

I mean c'mon, yesterday the high temperature was 78 degrees, then at night it was 10 degrees, and now today it's 26 degrees with freezing rain.

Welcome to Texas  . The panhandle definitely gets colder than we do in Houston. We'll hit 70 tomorrow, then drop to the 30's at night. It'll climb slowly over the next few days and then drop again. Texas winter.

Oh Texas. The only place you never bother packing up your summer clothes just because the season technically changed.

Got my first dose of driving with Texans in wintery conditions, and I'm scared now....

In a commute of 4 miles, I saw 3 cars lock up their brakes, a fender bender occur two lanes across to me and a 5 vehicle pile-up.

They ended up closing school early today due to the 1/3" of freezing rain.

I understand it's a different environment to drive in, but for christ sakes, some things like not smashing your brakes are common sense, is it not? :blackeye: That, and for some reason I find that people aren't aware of driving far apart from each other in bad conditions. If one loses traction, inevitably all will go...

Sounds about right.

You should see what happens when we get slush that instantly melts when it hits the road (so basically the same thing as rain)- people FREAK OUT.

Ugh. Yeah people are horrible drivers in these conditions that I consider pretty tame but I usually get sweaty and nervous from driving so defensively.

Haha. About two years ago, schools, businesses, etc. closed early due to a FORECAST of possible freezing rain. Nothing ever happened.

But hey, people drop dead up north when temps reach 90 degrees for 3 days straight. :help:

One thing I noticed about texas drivers is that you gotta be going fast no matter what. Its not that they just slam on the brakes, but they drive so fast that there's nothing else to do but slam on the brakes at the last second.

Well, found another accident waiting for us at my buddy's place yesterday.

Now how one gets into an accident of this magnitude in this little precipitation is beyond me.

....drum roll: looks like he smashed into a pole or something

Oh by the way, it was 58 degrees by 4pm today!!!!

It was 78 degrees at 2pm here in Houston.. at 4:45 it was 66, and by 5:30 it was 39.

It was right at 29 or 30 this morning...

Really, I find that Texas drivers are kinda slow. And they like to cruise in the left hand lane and won't get over when a faster car approachs from behind (especially trucks). And then when I change lanes to go around them they typically speed up some!

I sure wish we would have temperature swings like that. Right now the snowbanks (icebanks!) at the end of roads/driveways are so high you're completely blind pulling out.
