99 Contour SVT...ok so here is whats going on...i have a hard time getting it in second sometimes mostly when its cold. Third grinds going in to gear unless the RPM's are up and it always does while down shifting. I just put a new clutch in about 4 months ago. I think it may be my syncros but a buddy thinks it may be my shift linkage? Any help would be great...Thanks in advance.

Could be the shift linkage but the symptoms you describe are pretty typical even on a stock cable shift trans. I would try putting in some Ford honey and see if that helps.

Just curious, do you have an aftermarket short shifter?

I'm dealing with this same issue but with 1st and Reverse. After consulting a known tranny guru, we decided it was more than likely clutch drag. This problem in my case, should be resolved by rebleeding the clutch. Might give that a shot to.

From my experience, a short shifter makes it more difficult to shift into gears.
