So my check engine light comes on about three weeks ago and nothing went wrong immediately so I decided to ignore it, but it has recently started to eat my gas mileage at a decent rate. (Used to get 400 miles to the tank and now 325-350 miles). Any ways took it to a local shop and got the ODB II codes and they were P0133 and P1131. In addition, there have been times of random power loss, i.e. I'm doing 70 on the highway and I start to decelerate until I jam the gas pedal down and it will start to accelerate again. Although this only seems to happen on the highway. Any ideas what this could be as it sounds like it is more than just the O2 sensor? Any ideas/help is appreciated before I shell out 50-70$ just to have someone tell me what is wrong with it.

I would guess that your Fuel filter is clogged or your injectors are dirty. A bad fuel filter can cause all sorts of problems including misdiagnosis. Swap that bad boy out and run some Lucas Fuel Treatment through your system.

Thanks for you insight guys, But FullyLoaded do you think that a bad O2 sensor would cause that kind of random power loss? (i don't exactly know what the O2 sensor controls i thought i was just an emissions thing). And CSVT985 it might be the fuel filter? but i don't think its the injectors, i dump a bottle of that fuel system cleaner in my tank every 3-5k miles (i usually just do it when i change the oil. But then again i dont know how often/long it takes for them to dirty up.

I had your same code, solved CEL and odd sulphur smell problem my Mystique had. I never had the power loss symptom, but I changed the sensor right away. If it is a 1998 Mystique Duratec with Auto trans, that sensor is very hard to reach. Might be easier from beneath with an offset wrench.

Correct me if I am wrong but it wont matter if your injectors are clogged or not if your fuel filter is really junked up. If you havent changed the fuel filter in a while, you should change it. I do mine every spring.

Thanks for your feedback guys, i'll give you an update in a week. Im going to replace the fuel filter and o2 sesnor. thanks for the help
