I'd mentioned that we were revamping the closet upstairs into a bedroom. I'm not sure if I mentioned working on the dining room. :) We've now changed something in every room in the house. The only room in need of a drastic overhaul now is the kitchen. And that's a LONG ways away.

A few before/after shots...

New bedroom furniture is all IKEA. Decent quality so far... we'll update when the bed is tried out for the first time. :)

oh hell yeah
buhbye wallpaper!
that looks fantastic.

Do you plan on removing the wallpaper inside the china cabinet eventually?

We haven't really decided on it yet. We left it unpainted because of the wallpaper and mirrors in it, and didn't want to deal with how much of a pain in the ass it would have been to move all of the stuff out of there.

It's amazing how much brighter the dining room is now.

Did you do anything to the wood trim before painting it?
That's one thing we'll need to tackle in some of the rooms of our house - I absolutely hate the dark wood trim, and have been meaning to paint it for a while.

lol, I have noted that alot of the trim in my house was painted and I kinda wish it wasn't since it was some nice wood trim, not to dark but nice. I also have noted that paneling and paint where just put ontop of the existing wall paper.

looks great! I love white trim & the blues were a great choice.

yay, platform bed from ikea. I got one when I first moved in for the spare room & it's the only one I use now.

looks great......

ok i lied...i cant see the pics so i cant give honest feedback until i get home.
but knowing you guys, it came out great!

I don't think your color choices flow with the hardwood very well. Though it's not trendy these days, the room would do well with a light to medium gray carpet.

I love the upstairs rooms, like a cave. A friend of mine has an early-1700s farmhouse (in the family since it was built), I can't stand up straight in the upstairs bedrooms.

no way...you need the wood to give warmth, otherwise it would look like a freezer. Oranges, reds & wood tones are excellent choices with blues.

carpet in a dining room?
crazy talk

x2...

You'd be surprised to see it in person. The colors actually flow pretty nicely. Esp. if we have the overhead light on. It feels very... colonial when standing in there.

The wood was covered in a stain blocker, and then painted.

We bit the bullet and paid a company to come in and do those rooms. The walls were in such bad shape that we didn't dare try to pull the wallpaper off ourselves. It took them 5 days to get the work done, but it was worth it.

Brian, our entire living room was wood paneling when we bought the house. It was torn out and drywall put in its place before we moved in. :)

5 days sounds about right.
I know all about removing wallpaper! I admit, it's kinda fun as long as you have the time available for it :o

One of the biggest pains was that it was wallpaper over... wallpaper. There was a spot in the bedroom where it was wallpaper/plaster/more wallpaper.

The previous owners were the Mickey Mouse Club.

lol, my parents first house also had paneling in the living room that they ripped down.

my dinning room and bedroom have paneling also. I know in the dining room there is wall paper under it and it should be all plaster under that. same in the bedroom. so that is a project at some point to get done.

I could have done some things before moving in but I didn't bother. since I have plenty of extra space moving out of a room to re do it later on, for right now isn't a big deal.

lol aren't they all? ;)

We discovered the same thing while we were putting on a coat of primer in our downstairs bathroom (they did the same thing on the nonpanelled walls down there too).
One of my goals is to remove that ish and put a fresh coat of paint in the bathroom, much like we did to the rest of the basement a couple years ago.
That bathroom is a bit too girly anyway.
Mike wants no part in that project.

We were so frustrated with the crap in the bathroom that we painted right over it. ;) We'll see how it holds up in the long run.

The kitchen overhaul is going to be a huge, very expensive project. But well worth it when all is said and done.

my office was painted over wallpaper.
i tried to remove the wallpaper but due to the paint, it didnt want to come off.
so i did a skim coat over all the seams and then painted.
