I am considering going to get a stock manifold and having it ported and installing it as a header. would this be a good idea? or should I just get the header

BTW, the head really does help with the performance. I have new michelins and can't get them to stop spinning with an ATX.

nice. what cams are you running?

i would just get a header. you could either find a cougar/contour header or buy a focus shorty 4-1 header and make a custom down pipe.

edlebrock???

edit: sounds like it was decent, but no longer made.

Yes I had an Edlebrock header. Please note the header is uncoated.

how well does that designe of header flow? cuz i have to choose either that style, 4-2-1, or a 4-1. wondering which works best. the syle above i can get for 78 bucks off Ebay.

dont go for the cheapest thing out their. shorty's like that are decent but with the stock downpipe youll still run into restriction. They are great when running turbo setups though.

id really recommend the weapon r for fitment and the larger downpipe(maybe like 60bucks more for a better package). Unless you want to go crazy
and get a SVT focus header(which is the best, and 4-2-1) and have a downpipe made for it.

To the OP:I hope you hve a trans cooler on their! that things got to be cooking with all that power.

Why would you run the header with stock piping? My Edlebrock went straight into a highflow cat then I had 2.5inche piping all teh way back. That made a HUGE difference. I would take my Edlebrock style header over a 4-2-1 header.

that is how it should be done. But form what ive seen, 95 still hasnt done exhuast or header(still stock size). So that shorty wont help him much if he doesn't do those as well.

From reading the focus forums the stock svt focus header has the best flow but isnt the best choice for Turbo use. So its a trade off really. The svt focus tubes are MUCH longer.

I don't have a tranny cooler nor cams. I mainly installed it because I already had the head and was planning on waiting on teh goodies to come in, but while car was in shop, mechanic revved over 8000 rpms and floated the valves. so I installed the head. I've been trying to keep my foot out of it. hard to, have floored it a few times, but mainly letting it go at 3000. It does have the OEM cooler (lines go in front of the radiator) if that helps any. I am kinda lost when it comes to auto trannys tho. It's my first one.
Thanks for any help in advance.

well be very nice to it, until you can get one, the OEM one sucks and you will toast your tranny. Where you located? maybe their is a CEGer close by that can help you install one. They are pretty simple and cheap. Your tranny will love you. Their is a HOW to on CEG for installing it.

Well, I live in Murfreesboro, TN. It would be awsome if I could get a nearby CEG'r to help w/the install. I def don't want to go through another tranny. I have been hard on it a few times (when merging with traffic), but much easier now that I know that bout the tranny.

If your up for it, come to spring zing. It will be warm by then and we can take a few hours to install it at my place.

we will need to grab a returnable tool from the hardware store though. PM if you want i can help you find a decent sized cooler.

Look in Advanced Auto. There's one sitting back in the Advance thatI work at, and it's a pretty nice unit. Nice and big. And thick......Yeah.

I found one, and one of my friends is gonna help me install it today. It's a decent size, and from Torqflo. I will hopefully be able to make it to spring zing tho. I have always wanted to go.
