Where do you put your coil pack?

Maybe, but it sits waaay down front, right next to the rad support, right where the least clearance improvement would be on the cowl hood. Plus, the ST220 bracket can be really difficult to get your hands on. Just not worth it IMHO, the other ways mentioned are easier and known to work well.

Fwiw, the cowl method, as done by livinsvt and Pudmunkie and now others, is probably the best, as long as you are willing to give up the cabin air filter. I have allergies, and I'm not very smart, so I decided to try doing it a different way . . . which works well too, but has its own caveats as well.

i retained my cabin air filter i just had to cut off the mounting point on the inner side for clearance its only got one bolt holding it down now but i thought a loose air filter is better than no filter right?

I was gonna say...you could also enclose the coil pack side seperating it from the cabin filter lcoation. That way you can still retain the filtering ability..while having the coil pack placed there.

I made a bracket off the top passenger side mount to use with the newer style coilpacks. Its fits pretty nicely and it holds the coilpack real solid, after few days of playing around with different locations and brackets this one seemed to be the best in my opinion.

On my 96 its mounted on the front using the newer style coilpacks, you can use the taurus coil pack bracket mount, and just use it in the front with the plastic front valve covers (if your hood clears) You can't use the bracket with the 05 valve covers thats why i made the bracket above.

You should be able to retain the cabin filter. Sorta of depends on the placement of the coil pack and how far over you place it. I removed my filter due to oil accumulator being there.

Sorry, I want to make sure I understand. This is a newer (04-05) engine with a '01-03 front valve cover? And the bracket and coil are off of an '01-03?

Still trying to figure out what I'm gonna do. :-)

I'll let Nima confirm exactly what he used, but I will say that style of bracket will not work w/ the 2.5L valve cover becuase of hood clearance.

Perhaps it is worth going to Coil On Plugs?

Yeah, I briefly considered it, so I could avoid having to mount the coilpack and not have to play games w/ the plug wire lengths, but once I realized that, like Beans said, the COP doesn't work w/ the ST220 manifold, the point was moot. The COP valve cover on the rear bank doesn't fit under the ST220 UIM.

Ah, that sucks. Really trying to avoid having ridiculously long plug wires and/or cramming the coil into the cowl....

You can get MSD and other companies to custom make plug wires for any length. We do it all the time for the dragster since it has to clear bodywork and those expensive headers. It does not cost any more at the track for this service, not sure what it would cost off track. Ask a parts store about special order sizes.

Get it the exact size you need and be done with it.

I think the 04 motor with COP's is the best way to go now. I think i will be getting rid of the egr system also:shrug:

Damn.....i wanted the factory look....but oh well:crazy:

My concern with the MSD-style wires is I didn't know if they made them with the long plug-end boots like we have.

HOWEVER.

I went to Magnecor's site today, and was immediately greeted by this image:

Well, that solves that :-) .

FY: Magnecore made my plug wires for me. They are not far from me so that was easy. I beleive the cost was some were around $140-160ish. Nice wires.

The coil pack clips seem to be the big expense.

That's actually about the same cost as stock SVT Magnecors, so good deal!

Yes it can, look at the picture Nima posted. This is a 05 Taurus motor. Notice what kind of UIM it has ??? Nima figured out a way to make it work so it CAN be done.

Can't see it. imageshack is blocked at work, I'll have to check it out from home. What I do know is that on my car, w/ the stock 2.5L rear cam cover, I had to cut down the stock coil pack mounting bosses so that the UIM would clear.

its got 04 valve cover's, but look at it again there lil' buddy. rara said that the COP won't fit, not that the valve cover won't. that's why he's got a coil pack remotely mounted just like rara's! lol. i love noobs

What are you talking about noob? ive been around longer than you have....

Thats not what he said....
