I really want to color match my grill Black to match the rest of my car. Anyone have any advice on how to strip the "chrome" off, or where i could possibly by a Black grill or un-painted grill ? :help:

Yes, for a low price of FREE, RawBurt can take a piss on your grill. Acts just like acid.

Ok, I need to leave work now.

black krylon fusion. rock chips took it out a bit so i redid it, and good again so far. no prep work envolved, either.

you could always wetsand it with some 220 then 400, of course you wouldnt really be able to do the mesh part of the grill but im assumeing that you only want to color the outside ring and not the whole thing. i used the wetsand method to remove the chrome parts from a set of headlight reflectors after spliting them open. i painted the sanded parts black for a more jdm look (my 96 civic) it worked perfectly and if you do it in a 2 step with both grits it turns out really smooth. good luck

What you might be able to get away with is sanding it off with 100 grit, 150 grit, 220 grit. Do it well so the surface is refinished, then primer twice, use a filler primer if you have to. Then apply your body colour (or black w/e) and apply two coats of that, wait for dry (a day or so) then clear coat it twice.

That chrome wont sand off. You'll be sanding for the two weeks it takes to soak it in acid. Search the old forums. I posted a how to for painting your grill ring a couple of years back.

I don't know what kind of car the OP has, but the mystique grilles work very well with the razor blade method since they have a lot of wide flat surfaces. Hold the blade at a small angle WRT the surface and slide...if you keep the right angle, you can peel very long strips off...done 2 grilles this way so far.
