Ok - I'm in the market for an Optima Yellow top as I'm gearing up for my multiple stereo amp installation. I have found that the Red top 34R is what fits best into the Contour - no modification required. I want a yellow top - but there isn't a yellow top in 34R sizing, but there is one that is close - the D35.. It has the posts on the correct sides (reverse) but they are spaced differently....

34R

10 x 6.8 x 7.8"

D35

9.0 x 6.7 x 7.8"
Height adapter is included; it can be used on top or bottom of battery and adds 1.25" height.

These two batteries have almost the same exact dimensions, the D35 is just 1" shorter and the posts are spread out a little further...

Anyone have any input? Will this battery work? What do the sound guys run on here for a good battery? I tried finding an Interstate battery that would fit, but neither Optima or Interstate list the Contour...
I'm not set on the Optima, I just know a little more about them....

I honestly never had a problem with the stock motocraft battery for multiple amps in either contour. Just a thought.

I need a new battery in my car - I had the stereo going at a moderate volume level and in aroud an hour the battery was so low the car wouldn't even start :nonono: I'd like to get a high performance battery so I won't worry about the car starting when it is -10 or running the battery dead listening to the stereo for a little bit with the car shut off. I know I can't expect it to last with the car off - I've got a nice battery in my pickup with a stereo in that and I can listen to the stereo for 3+ hrs and the truck still starts...

Try a local battery store yet?
I was looking at batteries for my Mustang and found a good buy at the local Battery Wholesaler---dry cell like an Odessey but cheaper and good warranty.
Worth a shot.

I honestly think the D35 will fit just fine. Just buy it, see how well it does fit in there, see if the cables hook up fine....if not return it. Just don't remove the caps on the terminals and they shouldn't have a problem taking it back.

I think I'll do that when it comes to buying a battery.. Of course - I'll post if it fits or not... I'd just rather have the yellow over the red top...

I have a yellow top. I couldn't tell you off hand which size it is, but it has posts opposite what stock was.

I can listen to my system for 3-4 hours without issue and still start the car when done.

The cables are long enough to reach the posts then?

I'd LOVE to see some pictures of the battery under the hood. I know your car, I saw it last year at SZ. If you can run the stereo in that rig for a few hrs and still start, that is exactly what I'm after. If you cannot remember what size it was, could you get some rough measurements? Thanks.

Another angle on this - if one realized that the good batteries don't fit under the hood, anything can go in the trunk... I'm obviously doing this for a stereo - any issues with running your run of the mill Summit or racing style battery relocation kit to power audio amplifiers?

Ever seen mine Kyle? It's tipped on its side. Just a common sized yellow top that they had in stock at AutoZone. Fits fine the way I have it though. I changed the battery cables after the fact iirc, so I decided to use the "side posts" which are now on top

Yup - Gmail is FAST when it comes to updates.. I like the setup you have there - do you remember what model yellow top you have? (the size)

I do not remember the model... but like I said, it was one of the few that autoparts stores normally stock. And it was one that had two model numbers xx/xx and both side posts and top posts. That's what I remember

Thanks - I'll look into getting one that fits... I notice there is no battery box.. How did you mount yours? I've got nothing holding mine down but gravity and the hood...
