friggen contours

If you are having this in FIRST, then you need to check for slop in the shift cables.. under the shift boot look at the bushings.. then at the shift tower on the engine check there.. also in the middle (under the car where the shift cables leave the interior on the way to the engine) there is a joint.. check that too.. MY car had a TERRIBLE 1st gear grind.. would pop out of gear etc.. that was the problem was misaligned cables..

I'am shure these guy's know there stuff and the CEG is full of info but it might be benifitial for you to get a book or cd on the contour / mystique most parts stores carry Haynes books and are loaded with pictures..:)

lol... my friend just said i got pwn3d by you... .but i would make sense to pick up a haynes book...

anyways.. thanks for all your help... if i get a chance tomorrow ill take it apart and let you guys know whats going on

but this maybe a stupid question... how do i pull the shift boot off to check the bolts?

I have an SVT, but I think they are all the same. You have to remove the console. Start at the back and lift it as you go. Try not to break the plastic fittings that hold the boot to the console (easier said than done.)

.... umm i mean the custom look we have all been looking for:rolleyes:

i took isabell apart todaybut i couldnt figure out exactly how to adjust the shifter cables... even with a manual.
do you adjust it from where the gearbox is or under the car above the driverside a-arm? i was afraid to touch under the car incase i couldnt get it back together becasue i had to go back to school as well today.
also, how do i know if it even needs adjusting by looking at it?
it might just be a trip to Aircougar when i go back for winter?

Aircougar Performance is another shop you might want to check out. ;)
Only a 2 hour drive away for you.

I already sent him a pm letting him know we could help out instead of posting it. We also just had another member from his area have us rebuild his atx. worked out great.

the adjustment is made at the cable end at the transmission. Aircougar performance can do that also if you like. We can also check the car over for anything else you have a concern about.

I don't think you can tell if adjustment is needed by looking at it.
