Let me start off by saying that this should in no way detract from the upcoming Chinese Food meet that is still in its formative stages.

I was talking with the girl about going to the Auto Show. She was on the fence, so I tried to persuade her with the idea of fresh-squeezed vodka lemonade, which they serve there and is always a bonus. She may go. Of course, she may decide to go shopping. Either way, I'd like to go.

I'm thinking Saturday, 12/6 mid-morning, about 11. Should beat the afternoon crowds, and then we could grab lunch afterwards.

Looks like Mike and I will be attending.
He emailed me about it, and I figured he was going to post, but he must have got busy at work.

some links I decided to dig up (my first response to Mike when he emailed me - "how much to get in?" haha typical me)

looks like $10 to self park and $20 for valet

not sure if this link will work, but it looks like admission is $12 per adult

I'm up for whatever hole in the wall lunch place Jared can dream up.

Mike and I were thinking of parking elsewhere and taking the T in (and possibly ride that for whereever else we go for the day).

Be warned - the MIT lots are now employee only (yeah, it sucks), though you might be able to get away with parking in the MIT Medical lot... but I don't know how long that's going to last.

I'm thinking about parking at Oak Grove in Malden and taking the Orange Line in if Lee isn't going with me. If he is, then I'll just park at the BCEC. It'll cost the same to park there as it would to just take the T and park at the station.

"Hole in the wall lunch place?" I laugh. What kind of reputation do I have around here? We can go to The Oxford in Missoula, Montana (a bar with a 24 hour lunch counter) and eat chicken fried steaks at 2 in the morning. Then you can talk about greasy spoon. Man, it hits the spot, though!

I was just looking at the MBTA map. It confirmed what I already suspected. That the Silver Line is required if you want to go right to the seaport area. Otherwise, it's just a 10 minute stroll from South Station. I can't see myself taking the bus, so its either sail the boat in on the Southeast Expressway, or park in Braintree and take the Red Line.

Maybe we could stop at your house on the way down and carpool together - split the parking costs for one car. Yes?

The silver line route from South Station isn't awful. You're looking at two stops or so, and starts underground in a pretty cool fashion. We checked it out a couple years back.

There are plenty of little spots to eat in the area, but most are closed on the weekend, since they're really built for the lunch crowd. If everyone is fine with some meandering around Boston, we can certainly walk up to Gov't Center (20 minute walk) and see what's around there, too. Or there's always Chinatown as an adventurous lunch choice.

My stomping grounds are both north and south of the city. If we care to ride around in the boat, our freedom of choice will be greatly enhanced in those locales. If we choose one of the south shore's fine establishments, I could always drop folks right at the Braintree T, on the Red Line, so that you'll have a straight shot back into town.

That said, I'm not useless in town, either.

Regarding urban choices, I'm inclined toward this for lunch. Fish and chips and beer. Or some other kind of food and beer. Whatever works. There are numerous menu choices.

We're perfectly fine with driving the Volvo, too.

Jared is pretty much allergic to public transportation, which is why he's so hesitant. heh

I'm game for getting eats whereever. I'd love to try something new. I don't think I've ever spent much time in Chinatown.

As I told Jared already in another conversation, Mike's birthday is in December, so we usually try to spend a day in Boston doing fun things as our way of celebrating.
So we're up for anything after the auto show.

This piece of info had slipped my mind. Ok. I will ride the train and hang out in the city. For Cobra.

But if anyone breaks out in hives, I'll have a car waiting.

If you do go to the E&C I do not recommend the basement seating. I went there after the water main broke a few years back and it was extremely musty down there - not at all appetite-inducing.

I've never been to E&C... though I'd like to try out Wagamama, which is in Haymarket/Fanueil Hall.

I'm pretty easy. hahahah

I just checked out their website, and they've got pictures of people trying to eat stringy food with pieces of wood. Looks inefficient. Ain't they heard of forks?

Quick update - I won't know if I'm going to make it until the last minute. I'm still sick as hell, and have a doc's appointment for tomorrow morning at 9am to see what's wrong with me. If I can make it, I'll just drive myself in.

Hope to see you all there, but it's not looking so good.
