Agent 99 (ie the 3991st CSVT) turns 11 today! So what do you get an 11 year old car for its birthday? I've got to check the mileage, but I think it's due for an oil change. Maybe I'll clean the air filter.

Nah. Can't afford sanity. But I did find the perfect present. Actually it found me! My shift linkage fell off last night as I went to pull the car in the garage.

Haven't gotten under the car yet, so I guess I"ll search ceg for linkage issues and fixes and then see what Agent 99's situation is.

So birthday 11 will be a fixed/rebuilt shift linkage. How exciting is that?

Well, as these things go, it was the shift tower bolt that sheared. Luckily, everything came apart fine and I found the bolt head in the tranny. Now I just need to get the replacement bolt. Terry Haynes wants a week to key the tower, I just don't have a week to wait (he needs the core).

I guess I'll be off to a Ford store at lunch!

Unless someone knows of a place I can get a higher grade 7 mm fine thread bolt?

New birthday bolt installed and all is well! As things go, I guess this disaster was pretty trauma free. Bolt sheared when the car was lined up, ready to pull into the garage. It sheared off while the tranny was in neutral. Everything came apart and went back together with ease. The only hiccup was waiting four days for the bolt to arrive at the Ford store.

Right before this happened, the car was popping out of first gear at times, and felt like it was barely going into the gate in fifth gear. I wonder if the bolt partially tore before coming all the way off.

shift tower bolt fix update

Well, the rtx sealant I used to seal the shift tower didn't last. Four months later I was watering the parking lot at work and the garage floor at home. I have taken the tower back apart and will now seek the Motorcraft Anaerobic sealant (or equivalent) I should have used in the first place. When I took it apart, it looked like the sealant oozed out the sides.

Who knew so much fluid could come out of the top!
