whats the best way to fix this? what supplies do i need? or can a body shop fix this cheap? about how much would they charge? im thinking a rattle can job might not look half bad?
to stop the runs you have to get into the good metal and then weld in a new patch panel or if it isn't rusted through clean it up and use some filler and them paint.
i believe its just surface rust. what do i need specifically for filler, sandpaper, paint? im just looking for a rattle can job that looks decent, this is a daily driver after all.
You can't get a rattle can for Pre-98. The T-Red is a different shade that post-98, which all rattle cans are usually mixed for:blackeye:
Actually thats not really true, you can go to a paint shop and have any car color mixed up as long as you can find one that has a paint can machine. They are getting harder to find now days.
As for mixing the color, your car is really faded so I'd have them matcj the color on the car itself, If you have it mixed standard, IE: like it came form the factory, it will never match.
For the rest of the stuff, Just go to Wally World or a car parts place and get a can of bondo, sand paper-various grades, primer and the paint. You can look up this on the web....

DO NOT putty over the rust. I will get worse and come back through in a few months. Go to the part store and get some rust repair/converter. I used the jelly life stuff before and they also have an acidic spray that'll turn it purple. ONLY after you have combated the rust may you continue. You can google all this information if you can find it in publication. Try going to your local book store and getting a "How-To" rust repair and body work book.
The sanding isn't a bad idea, but you have to be very careful. Since it wouldn't be practical to peel the outer skin of the door, you have no way of knowing how deep it is except for knocking; and that can be very deceptive. If you keep sanding until you don't see rudt, you could end up going therough, or seriously compromising that area of metal.yeah i figured i would just keep sanding til i dont see rust anymore. i like your idea better though cuz who knows how deep it goes. thanks!
