My favorite thing about Contiques is......

Great all around performance for a spectacularly cheap price.
That is exactly why i bought the SVT. when i was looking for a DD so i didnt have to drive the "racecar" that was my turbo Zetec every day, i looked at lots of vehicles that were comparable to the SVT. I had narrowed the list down to 3 things, SVTC, 1.8T Golf, Speed Protege. while i really wanted another turbo 4 i went with the SVT because it was half the price of the other 2. of course, its good looks and great handling and my prior knowledge of how to work on the car was a push towards it as well.

edit: for those complaining about the 98+ cupholders (since we all know the pre98s are really cup spillers) try to find the upgraded cup holder insert. i have yet to spill anything, even the largest drinks i can find, large drink from Rally's (Checkers to some of you, I think i want some seasoned fries now :crazy:)

I normally jsut use the deaper one on the drivers side for my drink, havne't had a problem with it yet. Any passengers I tell them they can put their drink in the shallower one if they keep their hand on it at all times, or they can jsut hold it. Haven't had a problme iwth that yet either. I noramlly keep change in the shallow one though.

i think my favorite things are the guages. i literally drool everytime i glance down @ my guages and see the white face with gray 'SVT' and red needles. absolutely beautiful:). real timeless design.

My favorite thing about my Contour is the fact that I can continue to rack up the miles (100+ daily) and feel confident that if a repair is needed, expected or otherwise, that I can do the work myself without having to pay some crooks at the local repair shop. Unlike most other cars Ive owned.

Thanks to CEG and the SEARCH feature here.

The funny thing is, SVTs have two shallow ones. :)
I did a photo comparison of SE versus SVT cupholder inserts a few years ago. These pics are both of the left cupholder.

What cup holders are those? Both of my SVT's have had the big unit that goes in to both holders at the same time. I am guessing I have the updated holders. I have never had an issue with the ones I have but the ones you show, I can see how those would suck.

You have the smoker's package / "updated cupholders." I believe it was also standard for 2000 model year, not sure.
My SVT has the updated cupholder with ashtray. The ashtray is actually extremely useful: it has a fliptop door and is removable, so I keep all of the leftover Contour screws from various parts (especially the interior swap) in there. Depending on my mood, it resides in the cupholder or in the trunk.

Thats what I'm doing with it as well, great for holding screws.

i love that some mods you can do require you to go to the junk yard and get peaces off of older contiques or other ford cars, so you can make your contique look and work better!! and the sound of the good old Duratec!!!

I, too, have the updated, one-piece cupholder that you've got. All these folks that complain about the other cupholders just don't know how we roll! :cool: :laugh:

I would definitely say that. I love the feel when the secondaries open. squeaky back doors. and the fact that people don't know that svt contours exist and when they realize it is one, they're like "you got a supercharger?".

I like the fact that the Check Engine light going on bears absolutely no relation to how well the car is actually running.

let me count the ways/ duratec :drool: 5speed :drool: se suspension:drool: royal/moonlight blue paint:drool: leather seats:drool: moonroof:drool: 4wheel disc:drool:
duratec:drool: 5speed:drool: leather seats:drool: Ive driven many different cars at work and this one just fits the best (ergonomically the best)also great bang for the buck
