I have reviewed the FAQ prior to opening a new thread. My first question is.

1. Is their a place we can obtain upgraded ECU'S?

2. Is this legit and good to use. I am only keeping the basic mod's on the Duratec I/H/E no more so I do not need the XCAL however like what I see through this link below...

http://store.summitracing.com/partd...=1&N=700+150+4294908269+4294908263+4294924653+

3. Is our ECU locked? I am trying to avoid a dyno to get this answer...

4th Question... Does Bobby Hill float the other boat? God Dangit Bobby!
Thanks Ladies and Gent's.

no source for different pcms.

you can install a svt pcm and injectors if you like, about as close as you can get.

don't bother with chips ... either get an xcal2 or don't bother.

XCAL will run me alot of $$ between dynoing and should only be used if i'm installing more performance mods aka Pulley's SVT TB, SVT UIM, LIM, etc... Chips are made for cars that only have the basic I/H/E mod...

The Xcal will run me 379 + 80 for the first dyno to see if my ECU is locked, 2nd DYNO for Tuning Than 3rd Dyno for Result... that's about 600 bucks for a tune on I/H/E... and what 15 hp?... or I can get a chip that is built for a basic tune aka i/h/e and cost me 300 or less... I just want to know is JET a real deal chip like diablo etc...

This is not correct. Find someone in your area who has an xcal already and throw him a few bucks for his time. Chips are a waste of time and money especially since there are very few shops that can get them right on the first few tries. You will end up sending your chip back again and again... ask around this site. Or just listen to Brapple who already knows about this

yes it does cost more but its the better way to go ....

and what the hell is this about the pcm being locked  and why would you need to dyno to figure that out

you can get an xcal2 that is inlock on ebay for around $250 ... try looking up brenspeed. then contact NPG and get a tune, see the website for prices and options.

or just don't worry about it. chips are only really good for atx cars.

that or find a dyno with a ford tuner and have them custom tune the PCM while on the dyno, no chip needed.

also I don't know where you got your dyno pricing but dyno tuning is normally by the hour ....

Well my boss has a xcal3 but it's tuned for his v6 mustang... he has alot of mods + running 93 octane... he said he would have to re-program his xcal or something... he got really into it and it's too much to type

ok so the chip is out of the question... now i have to find someone with a xcal 2 i suppose. what's the difference between the xcal 2 - 3

not worth the trouble to try to use his xcal as it would have to be unlocked for him to keep his tune and then he could never go back to stock.

the 3 is a newer version, think it has a back light in the screen. check out SCTs web site to learn the difference but an xcal2 would be fine. just watch ebay for them.

do note if it isn't unlocked when you get it then you have to send it to a sct dealer to have it unlocked for the cost of $150.

also if its unlock but not restored to stock it will not download your stock tune when you first use it. So you will not be able to go back to stock afterwards.

so could that be the reason why my boss is trying to avoid tuning my car? because his tune on his xcal3 is @ 93 octane + cam's upgraded ecu etc.. etc...?

Yes, I think he would lose the ability to return his car to stock. IIRC, an X-cal "stores" your stock tune while "replacing" it with a custom tune in the PCM.

well there are a few things.

first an xcal2/3 can hold up to three tunes so that wouldn't be an issue.

but when a vehicle is tuned the xcal locks to the vehicle. you can not tune another vehicle untill the current one is returned to stock. Now you could use it if the xcal was returned to new, but then he wouldn't have his stock tune or tune anymore.

let alone a tune for a V6 mustang is in no way going to work on a contour.

so basically its one xcal per vehicle unless you never plan to go back to stock again.

that and the xcal will allow you to adjust a few things yourself like rev limiter, speed limiter, fan turn on points, fuel, spark, tire seize etc when ever you want. you will also be able to use it to datalog when you want also ...

and it will read and clear codes to ...

to get an xcal, no furthur information is needed. but if you want a tune from NPG you will need to provide details of your vehicle.

also it should come with a usb cable, my xcal2 did anyway. plus its standard usb cable so if you have one it should work fine.
