Transmission Problem. Swap 98 GL to 98 LX

I have a 1998 Contour GL. Purchased in May of 98. My fav car to drive. When she started hitting high mileage I told my husband if I ever got my hands on another Contour with low mileage I was buying her!!

Well, having mine for 10 years I gave her to my son a few months ago. Unfortunately, 10 years and 270,000 miles later he wrecked her. :nonono: Totaled the front end. Rammed her under the back of a z71 truck!! Son is fine.

I knew of a guy locally who had a taurus for sale. When he came into my place of employment I asked about it. He still had it and I was explaining to him my situation of needing to get another car. I showed him my pics of my wrecked baby on my cell phone. A little bit later he called me and said to come over he had something to show me and didn't think about it at the time.

Husband and I go over and he takes us out to the barn. WOW what a HUGE surprise I was given. He had a 1998 LX identical in color of mine. We thought wow, we could take the front bumper and corner panels and other parts to replace my baby's.

We asked him about his Contour. He said a guy owed him money and couldn't afford to pay so he gave him the car with the understanding it would only go in reverse. So the car is not driveable. He told me who he got the car from and I spoke with the original owner. He stated that the only thing wrong with it was the transmission. The engine was perfect, cold a/c. Body is in excellent shape. The only interior problem is the guy that owned her cut a hole in the backseat for his speakers!!

I called the guy and asked what he wanted for his Contour. I purchased her for 250.00. He said he just wanted enough cash that would cover the amount the guy who gave him the car owed him. WOW super deal.

I am now a proud second owner. The "new" Contour has 134,118 miles. Half the mileage mine does. My ac doesn't work, the "new" one does :-)

So did I get a good deal or what?

Now after my long post on how I came about my second Contour that I am excited about owning my question is...

I know I know....mine has high mileage but the tranny is in great shape. I kept very good care of my baby.

Can I swap my tranny from my 98 GL and put it in the 98 LX?

I also plan to take my backseat and put it in the "new" LX.
 
OH I would also like to state my wrecked baby still drives!!! We drove her home from the accident. She sat for two weeks and I had to move her yesterday to park my Escort beside her. She cranked right up :o

The worse damage she received was to the grill, hood, and headlight. The brackets that hold the radiator are bent. But no damage to the radiator itself that we can see. The water level is still fine, and it doesn't run hot. The radiator was just put in there two months ago.
 
An LX or SE????

An LX or SE????

Thank you re: transmission question.

Now how do I really know if it is an LX or SE? The title doesn't say. On the driver side the emblem is LX, however, on the passenger side the emblem is SE :shocked:

For the tranny, it does not matter what chassis it is.
