We just picked up a Jeep GC for my wife. It has pinstripes on it that I would like to get off. Except for one fender, the stripes are painted on.

Anyone know how to get them off or even if it is possible to get them off easily?

They're not comin off Mike. I can match that one fender pretty well or I can do a stripe over it if you want. I know Jess doesn't like them, but I think it looks good. It's resting underneath me as I type (=

They don't bother Jess as long as we can replace the one on the fender that was vinyl. I hate them. I'm thinking about buffing them off. Wet sand with 600 or so, then buffing compound, polishing compound, wax...

whoa whoa whoa bad idea. 600 grit won't be fixable with some compound. I think you really need to just leave them alone.

Well 1000 then. I posted on the GC board, and that was their suggestion. Or taking it to a body shop and having them knock them off.

Edit: But realistically I will just live with them probably. I do need to fix the fender that I already pulled off (the only one that was vinyl not painted). Had I realized they weren't all vinyl, I wouldn't have started.

thats the same type of eraser wheel i used to take the vinyl off the crown vic.
i dont think it will work on paint, since its designed not to damage paint.

but it works wonders on vinyl.
and you can buy the wheels at any body supply shop for about $10 and just throw them in a drill.

I give up. I'll just have to live with them. The fender that they are off of right now just looks so much better, much cleaner.

Oh well.

I did just install a new 200W headunit for my wife last night. New speakers on the way! Anyone ever installed video monitors in headrests before? The new headunit plays DVD's and has audio and video RCA outputs.
