Removing the EGR valve

I am in the process of swapping out my EGR valve, and I can't get the stupid thing off. The bolts come off easily enough, and the small hose comes off of the top, but I can't get the valve to disconnect from the larger hose on the underside of the valve. My Chilton's manual says to just "remove" the hose (no other instructions given). Other websites say to "yank" the hose out. But it's not budging. And the end of the hose looks like it's threaded, like it's meant to screw in, but it won't unscrew either. Am I going about this all wrong or am I just a wuss that can't pull the hose out?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you are talking about the metal pipe that runs back behind the engine (and ultimately to the exhaust manifold) as the hose, there should be a nut on it (like around the pipe) that you need to loosen and everything should come apart.
