I have an '83 Mustang with the V6. The C-4 transmission is blown. I am being offered a trans from a '93 Mustang with the 2.3L I-4 for short money. I am assuming this is an AOD (?) Will this trans bolt up to my V6? Also, my car is carburated, pre-computer. Is this an issue? Thanks!

If your car truly has a C4 (I think it is actually a C3), yes the AOD will bolt up. Don't forget the converter and different shifter. Your going from a 3 speed to a 4 speed. You may also need to pick up a cross member and possibly redo your exhaust since it is wider. I think the kick down linkage is different so that may need fabbing. Go over to Stangnet.com and see what is said over there.

Uh-oh! Somebody over on answerbag.com just said it won't work!
I was told it was a C-4, how do I find out if its a C-3?
(The info I have just calls it a "SelectShift" transmission)
Thanks for your help, I'll try stangnet too.

You can tell by the way the pan is shaped. The C3 I believe has a kick out where as the C4 does not. Let me look around a bit. There used to be a diagram telling the difference between all the Ford autos.

Is this to say that the C-3 and the C-4 are not interchangeable?

Thanks, I really appreciate it!

The parts are not. Heck, the only thing interchangable from the early C4's (64-68) and the late model C4's (69-81) is the bell housing. I had to run a different converter when I went to a beefier (late) C4.

the aod is alot different than the c-4. u would need every thing for the swap, cross member-driveshaft,converter,and all the wiring wince the newer aod runs off the comp,
u might need to pull the computer too.
