Ok so my 98.0 SVT has been nothing but a headache since I've purchased it back in May, Even though the owner who sold it to me said nothing mechanically was needed.

So my car had a bucking when I hit the gas as well as a hesistation/almost a jerking on light to moderate acceleration and also when coasting downhill.

My lower control arms were loose so I replaced those. Also the MAF was reading wrong so my technician took care of that as well. He had the IDS on it and all of the other sensors are reading correctly.

Now the bucking with the gas pedal is gone, but the hesiation/almost jerking it still there. After the MAF was taken care of it was not quite as bad but still noticeable.

The only time I don't notice it at all is when the car is coasting in neutral.

Also once in a great while when i come to a stop the engine idles up and down like three or four times then evens out.

It did all of this before I replaced my engine wiring harness and this really starting to annoy me.

Any thoughts would be appreciated at this point.

Thanks guys.

Might be the IAC valve or DPFE sensor. I have the same problem, worse in winter, cold temps.

I have had the same problem with both my old 2000 se and my 98.5 svt.. I have tried new plugs new wires fuel filter and all vacuum hoses i am using correct plugs the app764's
my problem is noticeable after the car warms and you give it acceleration usually below 2000 rpms. If i put the car in 4 or 5th at around 40 and floor it that is when its most noticiable.

i have cleaned the iac valve also

If it was the DPFE sensor wouldn't that be at a dead stop or neutral and holding a steady rev around 1k - 2k... I'd try the IAC valve first

Have the intake gaskets been replaced yet?
Do the secondary butterflies close (both sides)?
Do you have any exhaust backpressure?
Is there loosness in the drivetrain?

Having replaced a few injectors on my 95, have you tested them? They caused the majority of my hesitations and rough idle over the years. I wished I had replaced all 6 the first time I worked on them because 3 went bad within a years span. Takes a while to get to them!

I did the intake gaskets when i had the uim off for the harness
i replaced the imrc clips when i had the uim off as a safe bet, they both open and close
doesn't seems like there is any back pressure
no drivetrain looseness, especially after the control arms

it is most noticeable is 4th and 5th around 2k like the other ceg member stated.

I did just recently.. about 3,000 miles ago and its been there long before that.

if i change plugs and wires it fixed itself for a good month, then died again , i tried again and this time it fixed it for maybe 10 minutes?

could i be the ignition coil

...
could i be the ignition coil
Could be. But I would suspect the wires first. Make sure the wires are snug and tight, at the coil end and the spark plug end. If that doesn't help, I would remove the spark plugs and regap them. 0.054 inch.

Edit. What sp wires are you using?

i am using the autolite double plats and for wires i have autolite pro series.

i have checked both ends today took them off and then pushed them back down...

gaping on everything was fine also..

the mystery continues.
