took off the uim and lim to clean up and to replace the gaskets and noticed that the secondaries was not hooked up.The connecting rod was just laying there.Cleaned every thing up and hooked it up.(NOT CLEAN AT ALL)I was wondering what kind of gain I should get if any.

around 3200 PRM at WOT, you'll know.

if you're just slowly getting on it, right aroung 4k RPM is when you'll know.

and trust me, you'll know when the Secondaries kick in. power-wise and noise-wise.

Are you talking about the little ros thats under the TB? I noticed mine was hanging too but my secondaries work and have never given me any problem. Just wondering as well.

If the bar is hanging then only the rear bank secondaries are opening. Mine was like that for awhile. I didn't have the clip I needed to repair it so I just left the front secondaries open all the time and that worked. Once I finally fixed it I really noticed the difference lot more low end then they open and it pushes you back in your seat a little.

I put ros, lol, I meant rod.
That is strange, I swear I get that same feeling when the secondaries open. I have the same problem though, no clip. Seems that I have lost all small clips in this car... Guess I'm going to Zip Tie it and see what happens, but I swear when I wind the motor to 3500-4K it just gets louder and pulls much harder...

I have a 98 LX w/2.5L, and I can hear a louder sound from the engine at about 3500rpm, but don't feel any extra pull.

What am I missing and what should I look for first?:help:

Zip ties won't work. I tried wire then I realized that it wouldn't let the linkage pivot. I put off doing the clip for along time cause everyone said you had to remove the UIM but I didn't. I just removed the intake accordion and squeezed my hands in as far as I could. My fingers just barely reached and even dropped it once but I got it. Only took about 15 mins.

It might be time for a UIM/LIM cleaning/rebuild if that hasn't been done in the last 30k miles or so. I've been told that ATXs build up gunk worse than MTX for some reason. So in other words, your secondaries might be opening, but they might be so gunked up and restricted that it is not helping anything.

I think you missed what was already said. You will still get that feeling, because half your secondaries are working. The IMRC cable operates the firewall bank only, the rod actuates the front bank. You will notice it pull much harder when you hook it up.

I just had to fix mine. Just removed the TB hose like the guy said. The front one is easy. I used some sticky gaffers tape rolled to make it like double-stick tape, then stuck the little nylon bushing on and reached a finger around to push it into the little square hole on the back one. The front one goes in from the left and the rear goes in from the right. Be sure you have the rod oriented correctly or it will bind. Those dang little bushings list for $8 apiece but you can sweet-talk the parts guy into giving you a shade-tree mechanic's discount. I paid about $5.85. Ask him to print-out a picture so you get them and the rod in the right way. Jury-rigging this will not work - use the Ford bushings.

My LX has a MTX, but I know that it probably hasn't been cleaned/rebuilt in a long time, maybe ever. What is involved in a clean/rebuild?

One of the little rods that opens the secondaries on my 98 svt was unhooked to when i went to clean my UIM. Seem's to happen to alot of people. Everyone should make sure thiers is hooked up lol.

My personal opinion about gunky IMs is that they are probably made worse by using an oiled air filter like K&N. I had to quit using one because it kept fouling the MAF sensor, setting off a DTC. Went back to paper - no problem.

Edited for accuracy.

OVER oiling can cause this and OVER oiling is quite common for users to do. The switching to paper simply stopped you from likely over-oiling the K&N you had. You'd have seen the same decrease in fouling if oiling had been done to the proper amount, if you were in fact over-oiling.

Just wanted to point out to future users that it isn't that you oil the filter which can foul the maf sensor.. it is that you over oil the filter.

I had the same issue myself recently. mine rod was just hanging there. I went to the Ford dealer and bought the new clips, pretty expensive. around 8 bucks a piece. still a cheap fix but its a piece of small plastic. it should be 99 cents. hahahaha.
