Turn Signal Works about every 5th time

Lately, I have been having the issue where I turn my turn signal which ever direction I am going and it flashes once or twice then nothing else happens. The hazards work in similar fashion. Is this as simple as a new switch?

Please advise. Also, I have a 98 Contour SE V6 DOHC with 221K miles.

Almost always on our cars it is the switch. The flasher is also suspect, but they give very little trouble. Start with a switch. I have gone through two on my car. Original flasher.

It has been a while, but I think I remember it being between $75.00 and $125.00. Why don't you check the price on line at Team Ford in Las Vegas. Bill Jenkins gives us great prices.

The switch is very easy to change yourself.

I would try the flasher relay first. I had this exact same thing happen to my car a little while ago. I put in a new ($9) relay from autozone and solved this issue.

am not sure exactly what the little black boxy thing behind the flashing lever is called, but u might wanna change that first. it might've been mentioned. pick one up for a couple o' bucks at the junkyard from any post 98 tour. that should solve ur problem. its quite simple to replace. remove the plastic covers right behind the steering wheel. u should be able to get to it at that point. theres a button u'll have to push for the lever to slide out. theres a small black box attached to it. it sorta looks like an plug adapter. thats what u should change... whatever the heck its called.

Little black boxy thing = flasher relay

See if you can squirt some WD40 inside the working part of the switch, if you can work the switch while it is still wet in there.

Also Check each signal bulb/socket, clean with sandpaper or steel wool and lubricate with some dialectric silicon grease or vaseline.
