Blew my second mega fuse today in 2 weeks. Could it be a short in the alternator wiring somewhere causing them to blow this often?

No, I put in a remanufactured one from Autozone. Where is the voltage regulator located and is it possible to test it?
You may want to consider a new alternator from Ford. Not sure how you would test the VR. Autozone or Advance sells the VRs for about $50.No, I put in a remanufactured one from Autozone. Where is the voltage regulator located and is it possible to test it?

Well as long as this alternator is still working I'm going to stay with it to avoid another 2 hour operation on the car to replace it. I replaced the mega fuse again but next time it goes I'll look into the voltage regulator to see if that could be the cause.

Not quite sure, on the Tour, but these days the VR is intergral with most alternators. If you are blowing fuses after doing something where you were moving wires around there is also the possibility that there is a problem with insulation cracking and something shorting. Could just be a monday rebuild on the altenator too. I had that happen once most QC sucks these days.

Yeah this is the second time I've replaced the alternator because the first one was a piece and died after 2k. If the fuse blows again then I'll get serious and just go ask for my money back and buy a brand new one from Ford.
