Havent checked fuel pressure yet, still trying to get it towed back to the house. here's the dig..
Just got back from a 2-week vacation. Started the car when i got back.. it got to idle for 2 seconds then died.. then it wouldnt crank.. i let it sit for a couple minutes.. tried again and it fired right up.. The car worked great for the next couple days.
Yesterday i drive to Sears, go to the door and they were still closed so i get RIGHT back in the car.. go to start and nothing.. just keep cranking.. every once in a while if i'd key it on and off a few times.. it would idle EXTREMELY rough (at like 400rpm's) but then just die again.. i let it sit for a few hours.. tried to restart.. it idle's for 2 seconds and died again (just like when i got back from vacation).. after that.. it just cranks and never turns over.. any idea's before i check fuel pressure?

See if it will start & stay running if you crack the throttle.
Unplug your MAFS & see if there's any change.
Make sure there's a good connection at your CMP sensor.

crank position sensor wiring good? sensor itself?

With warm-start trouble it could easily be that.

wheres the crank position sensor? on the timing cover? (is that the CMP as well?) also now it seems as if its not turning over at all.. so its cold start as well.. anyway to bench check the CPS? ill check the MAF thing as well..

The one on top is the Camshaft Position Sensor. The one at the bottom is the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Does the CEL come on for a few seconds? If yes, then chances are the fuel pump is the issue.

If not, then PCM or Fuse 1 is the issue.

Sitting for two weeks could make water condense in tank? Cheap to try a bottle of dry gas.

Mike

You should hear the fuel pump prime for a half second or so when you turn the key to "ON", but not every time.. only when the pressure is already lower than it should be.. if you prime the system, then turn the key off and back on, you wouldn't hear the pump that time, since pressure is already high enough.

Just look at the fuel rail.

If its a single line, its returnless.. if its two rails, then its a return style.

Check out the "uim/lim rebuild" how-to for some pictures of the fuel rail.. then use that picture/location as help to find your own, and see if you have a "y" split (two rails) or a single line (returnless)

well no fuel pressure whatsoever.. i even held the shrader valve open while keying.. no fuel.. its also a return style fuel pump.. I have a fuel pump from a SVT Focus layin around.. can i use that one? if not.. anyone got a return style fuel pump they want to trade for this focus pump?

Make sure the relay is good, (if you didn't already), before you jump into dropping the tank.
yea i swapped it with the horn relay.. no dice..

O'reilly's was saying something about different spade connectors on the fuel pumps?!? a wide vs skinny?

wow this almost sounds like my problem that i've been battling for the past 3 weeks. I got and engine code for running rich bank 2 then got the the other code running lean bank 2. cold starts no problem water out the tail pipes. once it get to operating temp it sputters black smoke then dies. I've switch the camshaft position sensor same problem. replace the pigtail too cause mine was all cracked. this is getting outta hand now. I'm about to knock the dust off my 230,000 plus miles on my modded 86 GT! and start driving that bad boy around

fuel pump was the fix.. just as i thought.. thanks.. now just need to find a new plastic fuel line fitting on the top of the tank..
