...I drove 5 hours to Illinois to pick up my '99 Contour SVT. I found it on eBay while on a camping trip in the Minnesota boundary waters.

The auction ended while I was going to be on a canoe trip, so I gave my sister my eBay password and amount to bid, and told her to put it in 15 minutes before the auction's end. 80,095 miles, impeccable interior. Silver Frost wasn't my first choice, but everything seemed to come together. It was stock besides the CD player, resonator removed, and exhaust tips.

On the drive home, I got my first check engine light. I was really excited about that. I had just gotten rid of a Mystique that gave me extremely frequent CELs, so I was hoping I'd be done with that for a while. Not so.

Turns out it was a just a misfire, so a new set of spark plugs fixed that.

Fast forward to September 20th, 2007. My car had started ticking a little while ago. I was slightly nervous but trying to ignore it. While driving through Story City, IA at about 6:30 PM, I heard a CLUNK CLUNK TINKLE TINKLE DIE sound. The car wouldn't start back up. Oops.

I called a local tow company and when the guy arrived, he recommended a mechanic friend of his. I had the car towed there, and proceeded to spend the next 4 and a half months without my car, putting up with his bull:censored::censored::censored::censored: and dancing around. He'd start on my car and then pull it out of the bay to work on something else. He'd promise me he was starting on it first thing in the morning and I'd stop by two weeks later and it'd still be outside covered in snow. It ended up costing me $800 MORE than he'd quoted, but I was glad to finally get my car back. I had installed:
-'01 Taurus 3.0
-SVT valve covers and injectors
-MSDS headers and y-pipe
-eBay intake
-Quaife
-SPEC Stage 1 clutch

Turns out the Quaife was a good idea. Here's my old dif. There's no way it would have lasted a week.

Needless to say, the car was a completely different animal. Besides it being ridiculously loud, it was ridiculously fast compared to the 2.5. I dyno'd at 193/194. (The blue graph is an SVT with Bassani catback and KKM intake)

Since then I've added a K&N cone filter, 94A urethane cast roll resistor, Magnaflow resonator, painted oval, fiberglass eyelids, and cleared the corners.

Last week I got my '02 Cougar rims.

Future plans include:
-'05 Escape intake
-'02 Escape fuel rail
-Oval port injectors
-COP ignition
-3.0 valve covers

I'm just waiting on a couple parts before I can install all of that, then re-dyno. I want at least 200hp at the wheels, and 205-210 would be sweet. At that point, I'll stop pouring money into it and just fix whatever breaks.

So that's the story of my SVT. For our anniversary I'll fill her full of $4.25/gallon premium fuel and run through the gears a couple times.

Sweet car...i saw you got the dyno done in merriam ks that's about 25 minutes from me. how much did the 3.0 l cost you w/o installation?

Very nice man.

Let me know if you want to bounce ideas of me about the 3 liter Valve covers or the intake manifold. I'll be working on both the next two weeks. 3.0 valve covers are Powdercoated, and i'll see what were up against for the intake manifold once I drop the motor in.

Don't bother with the COP though, its not worth the hassle.

I already have my parts purchased, I'm just waiting for a wiring harness, injector harness, and injectors (all of which I paid for in freakin' APRIL but have yet to receive).

I chose to go COP because I was under the impression that the '05 Escape manifold goes back far enough that it'd hit the coil pack. I already had the valve covers and I got the coils for cheap, so it's not a big deal.

ahh I see, good luck with it. I have to mount the coil pack off the vlave covers because I went with the 04's. I just decided to run the 04 intake w/ the 04 covers for the time being, The escape intake positions the throttle body too close to the flipped taurus fuel rail. Everything is jumbled. When I have more time I'll probably take a look at it and work out a solution, let me know what you find out.

I picked up an '02 Escape fuel rail to fix that problem. I'll definitely take some pictures when I finally do it all.
