My car has started a ticking sound when I begin to accelerate. I used a can of B-12 to a full tank when I drove the car to VA Beach Sunday. Sound is still there. Sound is diminished by using higher actane, 93, gas. Anybody had this?

Also, how often can you use B-12 in the gas tank?

If higher octane helps, then the knock sensor is probably not doing it's job.

You can use B-12 in the gas tank every tank full.

The knock sensor listens for detonation and tells the computer so it can pull timing and protect itself. If higher octane helped you need some help internally because you have deposits that are giving you hotspots and hurting performance.

funny. my knock sensor has been missing for more than a year now, and i am not sure what improvement/difference i will see if i install one. is it bad that i run the car without one?

missing as i used to have one but someone had removed it and i just have the wire hanging in there, but no sensor. i found that out when i was changing my clutch last summer, so i never got around getting a new one and installing it...

everything has a part number. just call a few dealerships and ask the for the part numbers and compare if you want to be on the safe side. they should all give you the same part number. go to the team ford web site, and call the parts department. ask for bill jenkins. tell him what you need and he will send you the snsor in 1-2 days. he will also give you a discount if you mention the CEG forum.

My regular mechanic sells somthing call BG RF-7 which he says might help the ticking problem I hear when I accelerate. When you have an oil change you put it in with the new oil.

Anybody had experience with this product? Does it fix the problem or just cover it up during the time period you run it in the oil?

I have the same problem on my 99 SE. Sounds sort of like knocking or a small exhuast leak. I hit a pothole back in March and it caused me to have to get a new flexpipe. The car still made that sound even after a new flexpipe. Shop claimed there were no leaks. It only happens under load (around 25+% throttle). 99% of the time it's fed 87 octane.
