best way to prep paint for repaint?

honestly if you don't know how to do body work let the shop that is panting it do the work ...

otherwise you need to sand it down or stip the paint, finish the surface, fill as needed and get the panel straight and flat for paint ...

yeah i guess ur right... im just going to strip all the lights and ect... off of it and have them sand it and paint it... thanks for the advice though

best regards phil

yes that is a good idea, take off what you can and if you want to hit it with a sander you can but becareful not the make the surface uneven as the shop will have to take time to fix that ...

Before I got my car repainted I did just about 80% of the bodywork before I brought the car in. The place i got it painted actually gave me two estimates and after the first one I spent more time on the bodywork. They gave me alot of tips. If you ask they should be able to help you out, if not go somewhere else.

The weekend I dropped it off I stripped everything off the car. All the lights, doorhandles, rear reflector, grill, antenna, the sideskirts cameo off, all of the mesh. The window rubber pieces that keep water out came out too. The mirrors came off. They should tape stuff off but the more you take off the less time for them= cheaper and it comes out better. It took them 1 week to do it.

Then night before I washed it and then left it in the garage. Make sure it is clean!! Make sure there is no wax on it to.

They should buff it out with a 300 or 400 grit sandpaper on a buffer, then they spray a sealer, then primer, then paint.

I hope this makes sense, I copied and pasted from a previous post. I had the whole car repainted. It should be about the same procedure, except for removing everything
