Way to go Jack Kain Ford Dealership!!! Need to vent

This is a long story, but the bottom line is, I'm incredibly unhappy and dissatisfied with Jack Kain Ford in Lexington, Ky. A manager will be in at 9 AM this morning so hopefully he can do something for me.

Here's the story leading up until last night. Friday night I drove from Louisville to Lexington to go see my gf. I've been driving for about 10 miles on the highway and my car loses power and stalls out. I pull over and begin checking things. I check the fuel schrader valve and I'm not getting any fuel pressure. I then check the fuel pump fuse under the hood and its blown. No biggie. I throw another fuse in there, car starts up and I'm on my way again. 30 miles later, it happens again. Fuse is blown again. Put a new one in and the car starts up and I continue driving. I finally make it to my exit and the car dies again. By this time I'm out of 15 Amp fuses, so I step it up to an extra 20 Amp fuse I have. I make it about a mile and the car dies again. After that, it just kept blowing the fuel pump fuse. I had it towed to Jack Kain ford about 5 miles down the road.

Jack Kain finally finished up my car yesterday morning telling me the fuel pump had been replaced and the car was fixed. FWIW, this is a return fuel system for those wondering and they did drop the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump. I drive from Louisville to Lexy after work to go pick up my car. Once I get there and they pull my car on around, I give my car a quick inspection before I drive it off their lot. First thing I notice is the back seat bench has been taken off and just left there. So I spend 5 minutes putting that all back together and pulling the seat belts through the cushion. Next thing is I open the hood and check the fuse box to make sure they put the correct amperage fuse in and then I notice that they left plastic left over scraps from the install laying on the hood and they just closed it right on top of it. Thanks guys! Whatever, I'm just happy it's fixed. So I get in the car and it has about 5/8 tank of fuel. I smell a little gas in the car, but I figure it's just from when they dropped the tank.

So I drive back to Louisville (about a 1 hour drive from the dealership) and my gas level has dropped about a 1/2 tank which is really odd. I pull into the gas station and start filling up when I notice that fuel is literally dumping out from the bottom of the gas tank. :shocked: So I pay and rush it home back to my apartment complex which is right around the block and pull it into my parking spot. Gas is still pouring on the ground and running out from behind my car. But then I notice that the gas isn't evaporating and it's brown and oily. Well, by God there is oil mixed in with my gas! Some d-bag at the dealership must have drained my gas into an oil container and just dumped it all back into my gas tank once the install was done! Im furious! Well, I've called off work today because I don't want to be driving down the road with gas pouring out of my gas tank. I'm going to have to have it towed AGAIN to a local ford dealership to correct Jack Kain's negligence. Jack Kain opens and 9 AM and I'm going to talk to a manager and demand they get this fixed and pay my Louisville dealership!

Umm yeah...definitely not gasoline. Would have evaporated over night. That's oil!

I've never understood why people just don't do what they are supposed to, ie., fix things correctly. The leaking fuel could have caused a serious accident or fire, glad you're ok, Jim. Let 'em have it!!!
 
that sucks Jim. i would be extremely pissed. i would almost try to convince them to put a new tank in since it may be almost impossible to clean out all the oil and grease.
 
First off that IS gasoline. It stains exactly like that. It will be on the asphalt for quite a while. The filler neck must not be attached correctly.

I think your right Todd. The car is up on the jack and is not leaking as it sits, but as soon as I lower the car, it starts leaking again. Its probably leaking up near the filler neck.

Btw, I didn't know gas looked like that. It's oily and slippery just like motor oil.
 
Oh they will pay for all of that. Shoot me a PM if you need some dealership tips, i work at one i can have them by the balls
 
Sounds like this fuel pump malaise is contagious. Mine's having one changed out as we speak, but the dealership seems solid, and the tech familiar with the Contour. Sorry to hear about your experience -- what a pisser, man.
 
Car is fixed and ready to be picked up. Turns out Jack Kain forgot to put in a filler neck gasket. It was no where to be found. :troutslap:

I'm going to see if I can get a full tank of gas out of it too. I lost of a ton of gas from being towed and from the drive over to my apartment complex.

I'm glad they got this fixed for you and your finally happy.


I know your well educated, is it you found no time to tackle this yourself?
 
Thats basically the jist of it. I installed a fuel pump in my SE when I had it so I know how to do it. It's pretty straight forward. I was about an hour and a half away from home when it happened and my gf's parents had literally zero tools. All I really needed was some tin snips, rubber mallet, and a screw driver. Of course, even if they did have the tools, I would have to have it towed to their place which was about another 10 miles from the dealership. The tow truck is $3 every mile. And of course, if that wasn't the problem, then I would have to have it towed 10 miles back to the dealership to let them figure it out. No thanks.

If I would have known for sure without a doubt it was the fuel pump, I would have gone out and bought the neccessary tools myself. FWIW, the dealership did not have a fuel pump and it had to be shipped from another dealership which didn't arrive until Monday. I could have taken the day off to do it. If the fuel pump didn't fix the problem, I would have really been screwed. I'd rather have the dealership be accountable if it turned out to be a wrong diagnosis. I'm not paying for a fuel pump if it ended up not being the problem.

And yes, my gf would have thrown a fit if I drove down there to see her that weekend and I spent the entire weekend working on my car. :laugh: I only get to see her a 2-3 times a month, so I like to spend as much time as I can with her.
