alright yall, I'm going to be pulling an engine next week, I've searched around a little and I've learned a few things, but is there any reason I can't keep the y-pipe on the taurus engine when I pull it if I don't care about smashing up the donor car? how about with the ac compressor, could just cut the lines right?

basically need some advice with stuff like that, and like if it makes since just to cur the fuel line before the fitting so I can take it apart at home?

also need some sizes for the tools I will need to bring to pull the engine.

thanks guys.

wouldn't the junk yard pull the engine?

if not I suggest searching on a taurus forum for this infomration

the yard could pull it, if I want to spend twice as much for an engine with the same miles.

besides, by me pulling it, I get to make sure i get everything I want. like... when i pull it, I'm cutting the harness at the fire wall so I'll have extra wire, lume, and connectors so I can extent the IAT ans Knock sensor, ect.

also, if I runn into issues with bad wiring on my harness, I'll have most of a 3.0 harness for parts, know what I mean?

and junkyard parts pullers get paid practically nothing (I've done it before) so they just f@%& stuff left and right.

I'd rather know everything from donor to contour.

I guess I could ask spridget about taurus stuff.

i dunno, yes osme of the engine I have seen have some things broken on them but they are largly intact with just about everything bolted to them ...

I don't think that you would be able to get the engine out without taking off the y-pipe. The pipe goes under the subframe so it might get stuck and you might not be able to move the engine forward far enough to un catch it.

Cutting hoses and wires makes the removal quicker, but creates more garbage at your house. You will probably need to pull the tranny out with the engine then remove it.

You will need a good Metric socket set and wrench set, a couple pry bars, Plyers, probably a cresent wrench and of course a good old hammer. You will definitely need some sort of lifting device. Are they going to make you do this in a gravel lot?

Good luck

gravel or dirt.

I'll either be using an a frame and a chain fall, or a fork lift/back hoe with a chain to lift the engine, depending on which yard I'm at.

I have three more yards to visit, my cheap yard only had two split port 3.0's (no oval ports, rest were vulcans), one was missing a valve cover and sitting on the ground, the other had 180k on it, so no luck there.
