Car stalled after sharp left turn in braking

So i was cruising around at 40mph, and i almost passed the drive i was going to turn and so i slammed on the brakes 40-5mph and took a sharp left, the car died, battery light and oil light on. I was like wtf. Fired it back up and took off.

Not too worried about it, but i was just curious why? What it the world would cause this?
 
it happened to me twice a day.. but the i only stoped in a light. car wasnt in any gear.
but i hasn't done it in a while .. so i don't know what your problem might be. Iguess the cars are just messing with our heads ... lol
 
Hit the brakes too hard while the car is out of gear and you'll stall the car because of the vacuum pull on the system.
 
Is it automatic?
I have 95 Contour automatic zetec and if I slam on the brakes to stop it suddenly, the rpm gets very low and the engine starts sputtering for a second and after that idle picks up. I haven't stalled the engine yet but couple times I was very close.
I too was thinking that it is because of increasing engine vacuum causing this. Also my car is very old. This shouldn't happen on healthy engines.

Thank you! I never thought about that... I bet that is what causes my random stalling... It only seems to happen when stopping while on a decline, so I would be hitting the brakes harder, especially since sometimes I wait until the last minute to brake, why I do not know :)
 
Yep you never think about power brakes using vacuum until you need to replace that huge vacuum hose and realize how much it pulls.
 
Oil starvation would be a right hander, not a left.
I have had this happen to me once or twice over the past 2 years of ownership.

My $$ is on the vacuum issue from heavy brakeing and heavy turning at once.
 
Ok, now its getting annoying. harder than average breaking will kill it.

just about done with this car... yep.

98, could be, if it is a returnless pump.

Note, as posted previously, a massive vacuum loss could also cause stalling when slowing down, especially if it is a broken vacuum hose. I've had that happen to me before in a turn when I had a broken vacuum hose.

Could it possibly be a fuel pump/fuel filter? When i turn my car on sometimes i don't hear the pump kick on..

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. We have a winner! Most on this site will agree.

However, you could check the Fuel pump fuse or fuel cut-off switch first.

Excellent.

The fuel cut off switch is the black think you push with a screwdriver to "purge" the line?
Drivers sideish?
 
Or just make sure you weren't that low on gas.

I can stall my part fetcher Cavalier by going around in circles and being about a quarter tank. :laugh:


Oh dirt circles, the kind of fun you can't do with a lowered contour. :laugh:
