so last night i was driving home and took a left turn after a stop sign and, midturn, the car jolted on the right side. it almost felt as though i had hit something small with my right tire so i didnt think much of it. i continued on and then the car did it again. i pulled over to see if something was stuck in there but there wasnt. i continued on slowly and it did it again. it almost felt like the right tire was racing ahead of the left tire. does anyone know whats wrong? i tried searching but couldnt find anything. im worried and im not driving it. does anyone know what this could be?

thanks for any help

i'm going to try that. i ran it during the day today and when it does it, it makes a loud knock noise . anyone else have any idea? id like to have some general idea of what it could be before it goes to a mechanic

a better description would help. does it happen when your turning?left?right? accelerating? straight line?

Your diff is on it's way out. Hope you have $ for a trans rebuild. Might as well replace the diff with a Quaife or Torsen.

Check for large oil leak from trans. If none, you avoided having a hole in the case. Could even be a broken driveshaft (I hope it is, easier and cheaper than trans overhaul).

Assuming you have a stock differential in your car, I'd agree with todras on this one. When you say it happens in a straight line, does that mean when you are accelerating in a straight line? If so, that might not bode too well, the teeth on that diff might be getting a bit weary :cry:

i did some troubleshooting today. heres what turned up...

i jacked it up and manually spun one tire while holding the other tire. it spun at first but then jammed up and wouldnt go forward without alot of force. however, if i then backed it up a bit it seemed to free up and i could then turn it freely again. when i spun the tires, there was a small rattling from the gear box.

i think the jolting im feeling while driving is the tranny pushing through whatever is binding up the wheels.

so im pretty much :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed right?

:shrug::cry:

agh im not even sure if its the differential. that seems like best case scenario at this point. im trailering it to a shop tonight to pull it apart and see what the issue is...:cry:

As stated. The diff is shot.
