Hi, my car doesn't have CD player, just it's regular Ford radio. Now I love American radio stations, they are AWESOME compared to the horror I'd to suffer in Germany.
Now I can't spend much on a CD player, thought they would cost 200 bucks or so.
But I went to ebay, and there are - incredibely - offers for 60-70-80 bucks with even MP3 functions.
Since I don't know this stuff, is there anything you can recommend to me? Cause I wanna listen to my Rammstein pretty soon :)

How tricky is the installation of a car radio?

LOL. It depends really. Since you have the tape player it shouldnt have the amp behind the glovebox that causes a slight problem but it would be a good idea to flip it down and check. Other than that hopefully the tape player will slide out on its own when you use the removal tools and then its just splicing the adapters together and sliding the new one back in.

Audio installation FAQ from Audio forum

It will involve splicing some wires to connect to the radio harness.
I like Crutchfield.com because they include step-by-step instructions, although others will stay away because they can be expensive.

Yeah, listen to rougar. I learned the hard way before finding ceg. Played the wires for 2 hours before I learned for my remote wire, it had to splice with the solid blue as well.:troutslap:

I think I'll look for a CEG guy to help me out with this, cause I'll definetly screw it up by myself.
As for the radio, I wanna get a Blaupunkt, had in my Citroen, solid thing.

Since the Contique is already quite German (when I'd to take apart the Dashboard of my former Contour, the console was pretty much Made in Germany), I wanna keep the radio German as well ;)
Also, the Blaupunkt is not so flashy, like that

At least drop the glovebox to check for the factory amp which will determine how much wiring you'll actually need. From there its just matching up the Ford harness colors to the stereo harness that will coming in the box with the new headunit.

You cant miss it. Its big, silver and has wires coming out of it. As the stereo wires, yes you'll need them. If the seller doesnt have them find another seller that does because its a lot harder to find the plug for the back of the stereo than it is to find a plug for the car. He makes it sound like he just unplugged it but you may ask him if he means it doesnt come with an adapter but does come with the blaupunkt plug.

Hmmh, just checked, couldn't see much. I saw a lot of colourful wires, but they were so far up, they must be going into the AC. Otherwise, there was a huge half-rusty metal think, and a plastic tube. It's dark like in a cows ass, so I couldn't see anything silvery and big.

So if I get the one w/out the wires I could, under certain circumstances, not use the thing, cause my car may not have the cables?
But if I get the refurbished Blaupunkt, I would definetly not have a problem?

Did you simply open the glovebox or did you release the clips on the side and let it swing down? Its easy to just push the tabs in towards each other and let it flip.

If you got a stereo without wires you're gonna be up a creek without a paddle. You need that specific stereo plug to plug into the cd player so you can attach the wires to the car. Bottomline.

Fordwerke, do the speaker grills on your doors say Premium Sound? I believe that's a reliable way to know whether your car came with an amp.

Nice Blaupunkt. I installed a Sony CDX-GT310. The design and green lights integrate very nicely with the Contour dash, and the dot display looks great. CDs sound amazing, and radio reception blows the stock unit away. I also installed a pair of Infinity speakers in the front doors. I'll do the back doors if I find the same speakers at a low enough price. An amp would be really cool, but I don't think I'll go that far at this point.

I like the minimalistic design of the Blaupunkt; is an amp necessary for it? Cause I didn't noticed any premium sound notic on the speakers.

I planned to put on stronger speakers into the rear doors, but unexpectedly my account drained a bit, so I've to wait till...

And thnx for the offer to help me installing! You CEG fellas are awesome.
Die Absicht zaehlt! But Ft. Walton is about half way to Kansas, 650 miles!
But since even someone from KS will help me, I think I can find someone from here to help me out.

My SVT grills simply said Stereo Sound even though I had the Premium with the amp back there.
